@Tasuki There is changed code on the games used on PSnow, otherwise the server couldn't handle all of the input and output, while also trying to stream and upscale at the same time, all it takes is a couple lines and values changed in each game for them to work natively on download. But I know it isn't going to happen man, you don't need to keep telling me that haha, it's not financially worth it for Sony
@Tasuki Alot of the code has already been rewritten for the games to be played on current gen because of PSnow. It just won't happen because there is no money in it for them and as you said the development times are a factor. I was just explaining a way that it could be done haha, I know it won't ever actually happen lol.
@Tasuki I was using PSnow as an example because the ps3 games it has available have been changed to suit ps4. I didn't mean the streaming part of the service that is crap, of course each full game you play would have to be downloaded to the ps4 (just the same as any other game you own). Everything you are saying is right bro, it's just not the point I'm trying to make haha
@get2sammyb the architecture of the console does not matter if the disc is only using it's serial code as an unlock key to play a digital download. And the code has already been changed for an impressive amount of last gen games on PSnow, which is still growing over time. Both me and @EVIL-C aren't saying that it would be complete backwards compatability because as you said it's not feasible, But the way that I'm trying to explain would get us at least halfway there as a compromise haha
Plus it would take the guys at Sony barely any time at all to put all of the disc serial numbers from the ps3 games onto the ps4 system so that they can be indexed and the discs can be used as keys to play the digital downloads. But none of this will ever happen as there is no financial gain in it for them lol.
What @EVIL-C is trying to explain is 100% possible, it just needs a clearer explanation. Just pretend that the ps3 disc is a just a normal DVD and all the ps4 has to do is read the basic disc image. From that the ps4 can get the title off of the disc and search it through the store or at least give you the name so you can do it yourself, then just download and use the disc like a key to play, in the same sort of way that things like region locking work. ( sorry if my 'clearer' explanation made things more confusing, I got a bit carried away once I started haha).
