Re: Sony Investigating as Christmas Traffic Pulls PSN Offline

@Paranoimia ; It is always nice to have knowledgeable folkes such as yourself to diffuse all of the erroneous reporting on gaming issues. I myself, have long lost the ability to keep up with my son's gaming consoles and the issues that come with it. I am more computer inclined. But thank you for the thorough explanation that helped to resolve my frustration. With his PS4 back up and running and the recent claim to have identified the source (a disgruntled Sony ex-employee) are all indications that Sony did its part and well, to help get the system back up.
So; thank you for your responses, instead of belittling me and my comments, you tried to explain it and you did that very well. Robyn

@Paranoimia: Thank you for the clarification on ALL points. If news feeds would stop calling it a hack, people wouldn't be misinformed, so just explain in terms we can understand. Sony/Microsoft's job.... . Unfortunately, it is getting to the point where the consumer can't protect them self from being the target. Blaming Sony and Microsoft is warranted somewhat to me. In my mind, as the consumer, I believe they should be on top of this kind of thing and have engineers, programmers, experts; developing ways to prevent it. After all, they make billions of dollars on consumers, the least they could do is spend some of it to counteract this issue. But I am just the consumer and I already spent my hard earned cash, so I will just have to deal with it right? What else can I do? But thank you for your informative response, I learn something new every day. At least you weren't nasty about it.

@Paranoimia ; I know both companies issued statements but they were vague at best and apologizing at this point is premature if they are not even SURE what caused it. If indeed it is a HACK; it seems it would be consistent as in EVERYBODY and not here and there or one country and not another.

@Tasuki ; Thank you; this shows how sporadic the outage is. I find it strange though myself, how it isn't the same everywhere; if it is a HACK; and I still wish PSN and XBOX would just be honest with consumers and admit what ever it is doing the damage and give them some idea of what they believe it will take to get it back up and running. I care only for my son who enjoys online gaming and was so looking forward to being a part of the PSN.

@wickedproxy ; thanks for your considerate response. It is only my teenage son who is experiencing the issue but he found an alternative, he is playing XBOX which is his favorite anyway. He asked for a PS4 and he got it and he IS playing the stand alone, just can't play with other friends who also received one. At some point, SONY will figure it out, but for parents whose only intent was to make their kids happy, SONY is a huge disappointment.

@theatrain: I see the news posts but it doesn't mean I BELIEVE IT. I do not believe everything I see on the internet or what anyone says they are responsible for either. I DO BLAME SONY; they have the ethical responsibility to give anyone who purchases their product what they pay for and this year they have not done it. When XBOX came out they didn't crash and this group claims to have taken down XBOX too. If this is true; how do you explain the fact that my son stayed up playing XBOX online with his friends instead of enjoying his new SONY ONLINE PS4? YOU should stop attacking people for posting their opinions. I am very close to returning all of the SONY products I purchased for a Christmas gift because I just don't believe the HACKER theory. I believe they were not prepared for the overwhelming response to PS4 as Christmas gifts and just couldn't handle the traffic. If they want to allow the public to believe they were hacked to take the pressure off of them and show their inexperience with online gaming, that is their business but it makes them look inexperienced to me. I have my opinion and I am sticking to it no matter what you say.

Our son has always been a loyal XBOX fan; very rarely any issues that were not solved thought Tech Support which is 5-STAR in my opinion; they ANSWER the phone and always solve the problem, AND they are courteous. He talked us into a PS4 and we not only bought it, we bought games and a headset....and the FIRST DAY, IT CRASHES.....SONY you should be ashamed and this is NO WAY TO GET LOYAL CUSTOMERS. Here is NC, our son has been trying ALL DAY to play with friends to no avail....all he could accomplish was signing up for the membership for a year...SONY: Is it going to take your engineers who are working diligently to fix the issue; a year to figure out why online gaming is not working?

We spent a small fortune on PS4 , games and accessories; for our teenager and he still can't get online here in North Carolina. He has been trying ALL DAY. BUMMER...
Meanwhile, he is playing ALONE or XBOX and we are wondering why we even bothered with Sony PS4. MERRY CHRISTMAS SONY.....you should make it up somehow to all of these customers who purchased your product and got nothing in return for it on Christmas Day. This is just wrong....and totally unprofessional on your end.
