I don't deny that it's a great gesture, but it's a very smart move with next generation consoles releasing later this year. Sony taking the initiative as the company who gives money away to their subscribers. And when you think about the value of the PS+ offerings each month, $10 store credit is very little. And I don't say that in a negative way. Just saying it's $£€10 to us, but it's not actually $£€10 to Sony. Easily affordable for them.
