Who wants to purchase a brand new xbox one in 2020? Its a smart move, Being that manufacturing costs, why keep manufacturing its weakest version of xbox one ? Whoever wanted any system rather it be PS4 or Xbox one should have one already imo. (choices were made years ago). I think its great microsoft stopped production so resources can be focused on the series X. The frugal gamer can buy whats left.
@BlueOcean . Im not a PC player,but don't PC players adjust their settings or upgrade the rig to get the most out of games? Xbox is automatically adjusting crossgen games only to higher settings. Hope that clears things up for Saiko
The logic is ; While in the middle of playing those "two games "and say if you eventually decide to upgrade to the XBX series X. The "two games" will upgrade with you for free.
I think there will be games that are" made for it "and games from previous gen. The thing is ,some gamers have a backlog and don't necessarily need to focus on next gen, until its something worthy of attention. Hopefully it will stop developers from sending rushed games to launch. Cause gamers can kindly ignore and keep completing backlog instead of looking for something new to play that hasn't been completed or optimized. We had alot of that this gen,and besides all the good games don't roll out at launch anyway. With the exception of early adopters , most usually buy a new console off the promise of future releases or buy when games of choice releases.
I think people are misunderstanding. Phil is making the transition to the next gen as smooth as possible imo. I know the Xbox series X would not be limited due to backwards compatibility because Xbox one X was certainly not. I believe he has a more economical approach. If xbox has a console option without any controllers or hdmi cables that we have presently , it could mean a less expensive console option and with a bonus of having games already available instead of the next gen drought. When new consoles release in my experience ,its a wait on the good titles after completing launch titles which some new gen games may not be favorable. I like that after completing the next gen game of my choice, I can then go back to completing my backlog until the next best thing releases. I don't think he means Next-gen titles should be designed to run on current-gen consoles, too. I think his philosophy is if you buy a between generation game "digitally"(upcoming games like cyberpunk) "your game" should be reinstalled with next-gen upgrades , next gen visuals ,and next gen features instantly when you upgrade your console to Xbox series X (So, current xbox one game upgrades to series X game automatically). That way you can continue where you left off (saves). I think its a great idea, some gamers can now buy games like cyberpunk instead of waiting for a release on Xbox Series X . Next gen games will be new games that were never released on current gen. Phil may get resistance from companies who are trying to get a quick cash grab for definitive editions who just added some fresh paint to their games(They will have to work harder to get my cash now). Agreed, I'm guessing some are prioritizing the "hype of it all" and wanting their honeymoon phase with the new consoles .
