If you're like me, you fell hard for Vampire Survivors when it finally came to PS5. Well, another game in the burgeoning bullet heaven genre is coming soon to Sony's console, and apparently it's a corker.
The game in question is Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, a spin-off from the popular co-op mining game. Here's the console announcement trailer to give you a taste:
It arrives on PS5 on 7th October 2026, just over a year after the title launched its 1.0 version on PC following a stint in Early Access.
During its time on PC, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor has garnered a lot of love from both players and critics; over 24,000 Steam user reviews label it Very Positive, while it has an impressive 86 Metascore.
The game takes many cues from Vampire Survivors; you attack automatically, you must fend off hordes of monsters, and you rapidly increase your firepower over the course of a single run.
However, it seems the game brings plenty of its own ideas to the table, all coming from the original Deep Rock Galactic.
Mining is a big part of it, for example. You need to mine for resources as you play, which can then be spent on upgrades between floors. Some materials are necessary to unlock permanent upgrades between runs as well.
Survivor also gives you optional objectives in each area, offering up a large payout if you manage to accomplish them.
Another way it differentiates itself is with its classes, based on the main game of course: Gunner, Engineer, Driller, and Scout. Each plays differently from the rest, which you need to keep in mind as you level up and work on your build.
It looks and sounds great — now we just need to play it and see if it really does have the sauce.

I'm always open for adding more Survivors/likes to my collection and Deep Rock Galactic is an IP I've seen but never played so I'll definitely give it a try. I'm also waiting for the Warhammer one to finally receive a release date.
I payed this in early access and was good fun but it didn't have the range or depth of vampire survivors and became a bit of a grind...hopefully there has been better balance for the 1.0 release.
I played this on mobile and really enjoyed it. I may get it depending on it's price.
@GirlVersusGame
Ha absolutely knew you'd be in for this topic as soon as I saw the headline... Another one for my wishlist/backlog I guess
If it's even one tenth as good as deep rock galactic was, It'll be a banger.
Yes! I was covetous of the PC crowd that they had this one. It will go high on the wishlist.
@Quintumply how come the embedded trailer says it releases on 9th October, but the article says 7th?
More survivors is always a good thing. I recently got the platinum trophy and it got a bit grindy towards the end so I may not pick this up right away as I needed a break but I'll see what the consensus is after it launches.
Finally! Galactic Survivors has been on steam and xbox forever.
If they keep making good survivors games, I may end up with zero time for any other genres. Even the bad one were pretty decent
@StrickenBiged It's 9th Oct for Switch, 7th for PS5. Says so in the video's description and on the PS Store Not sure why they didn't put both dates in the trailer!
Vampire Survivors loses its luster really quickly once you hit that difficulty cliff. I'm at the point where I just walk around mowing down enemies. No lie, I fell asleep with the controller in my hand and I have no idea how long I was out. I woke back up and I was still alive and trucking.
@captainsandman that's usually not the case as enemies keep getting ridiculously stronger, but it happened to me a few times as well. I also fell asleep each time, admittedly...
I have been playing this on Series X. I love it and cannot wait for the PS5 version. I was whining to my SO about it last night.
This is great, can’t wait to play it on PS5.
The original DRG is a fantastic game as well.
Rock and stone!!
@captainsandman @naruball Ha, yeah, I've fallen asleep many a time playing VS. I blame it on having 2 small children and only being able to game later at night. Still keeps me coming back for more though!
@naruball my thumb was still pushing the joystick forward so I was walking around. You would be surprised how easy it gets in the late game once you have the right weapon loadout.
