Japanese games are keeping this gen alive imo.

Already got Townfall preordered, I'm already convinced. Castlevania from the Dead Cell devs is looking great!

@tameshiyaku I agree but would go further and say Asian games are keeping this gen alive, mostly Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

I'm really hoping that Konami can rise from the ashes like Capcom.

It's great to see old IPs cropping up again. Looking forward to the new Castlevania..

@Dodoo @tameshiyaku I'll go even one more step further and say that it's simply America that's letting this gen down for the most part. Asia's contributions to this gen are well known, but Europe has been producing a lot of really high quality games this gen like Kingdom Come 2, Clair Obscure 33, and let's not forget Rebel Wolves which is coming out this week.

Metal gear solid remake? Maybe revealed at the state of play and showed more at the Konami event.

@TheDarts , sorry to disappoint you, it will never happen again. Sony is obviously making more money with "efootball my club" than ever before, same as fifa.
I deleted efootball after a week, than returned after a year for another week, and I am sure that this master league is dead and gone. Unfortunately. This is money grabber now and each week new messi is 3x as strong as the one from last week.

Thankfully Pro Evo 2021 is still the best playing football game, still far ahead of FIFA, and updates are still available to download and keep the game up-to-date.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse might be my first (proper?) Castlevania game. I tried Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night which is I'm told a a spiritual successor to Castlevania. It was a great game, hard too but balanced, many monster types, loot, weapons, things to grind for, I'm not saying they are the same game, just that Belmont's Curse looks approachable for first timers. Zuljaras gave me a history lesson of the franchise too, so did the book The History of Castlevania - Book of the Crescent Moon by Konami. Packed with storyboards, original sketches and designs. I did try Lords of Shadows on PS3 not too long ago too, other than the music box level it was a good time.

Pragmata was so good. Already ordered Castlevania and Townfall. Capcom just doesn’t disappoint these days.

@TheDarts not Sony, I meant Konami. I agree with you, I was fan of Seven Eleven, even before pes and I think the same. Pes is better in gameplay than fifa, but it wasn't bringing money, at least not as much as they wanted.

The big surprise Konami will have in store for us is a new Rumble Roses game. Oh yeah, it’s happening.

@NessunDorma football games used to be developed in great numbers until FIFA came along and ruined everything with their despicable UT. Everyone who plays that crap is culpable for the death of football games.

@tameshiyaku They've been doing great, but I'd say it's Europe that's been kicking ass this gen.

@Dodoo I'm not saying that there aren't great third party games coming from the US and Canada, but it's nowhere near as many as we're getting fro Europe or Asia right now.

I mean seriously, how many good third party American AAA games has the PS5 gotten this gen that aren't from yearly franchises?

Dead Space remake, Forza Horizon 5 (which I think is a stretch), Doom the Dark Ages, Indiana Jones, Mortal Kombat One, Starfield (another big stretch), Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Hogwarts Legacy, Dragon Age, Marathon, Assassins Creed Valhalla and Shadows, Marvel Midnight Suns, Diablo 4, Halo (I think is a stretch) and Guardians of the Galaxy.

I'm sure I missed a few, but that isn't a very compelling list of games for an entire continent.

Alright, more games to complain about and brag about not playing!

I would like as a surprise they just toss out a suikoden star leap console version

@ThroughTheIris56 yeah, Europe is also delivering some. I can only think of Claire obscure and plague tale. Do you have other European recommendations?

@Dodoo I wanted to mention China and Korea, but at the same time they're flooding the scene with gotchas and live service games. Some of them are also pretty impressive for what they are, but also partially problematic. Korea often too glossy abd China has been going crazy on two syllable wuxia games that look very samey, with a few standouts like black myth and phantom blade.

Japan though has been mostly consistent with classic gaming, meaning for 60€$ you get a full game with beginning and end and very little monetisation on the side.

This gen has plenty of very solid games by western devs. And for Konami case, their games like SH 2 remake, SH Townfall, and Castlevania Belmont Curse are also developed by western devs.

This stuff gets buried all the time, but I'm still really glad Sony partnered with them to a revival going. Came a long way since that first Silent Hill blowout. I do still hope to see Bloody Roar come back, but I'm definitely not complaining with what we have on the way. Extremely curious about Rev. Noir.

@tameshiyaku yes you’re right good point and I’d mostly agree with the exceptions of some like stellar blade etc.

@ThroughTheIris56 sackboy and crow country were great. Neva and midnight walk are on my wishlist. Yeah, Europe is pretty good in the indie and AA section.

@tameshiyaku Neva is good, but all those other 3 are amazing games. Was particularly surprised how emotional The Midnight Walk was.

@TheDarts Amen to that. Fifa was great, until FUT, which I havent never even tried... I am proud of myself
I was pes fan and each year tried fifa, my friend used to be a fan and each year I boutht pes and he bought fifa. So I had a chance to compare and each year I had same problems with pes and same problem with fifa, but overall feeling of pes was each time much better, much more football, much more real. Shame that it is over

@NessunDorma agreed. And it is a shame in the truest sense of the word. Absolutely shameful. Konami doesn't respect fans or their franchises. Its all about profit
