Gigantic Crimson Desert Expansion Releases This October on PS5

If you've already spent hundreds of hours playing Crimson Desert and you're somehow still hungry for more, I've got great news for you: a massive expansion titled Charting the Unknown has been revealed.

It's got a new setting and story, plus a frankly bewildering number of new gameplay elements. You'll get to build (and decorate) your own castle, sail a ship across the seas and engage in naval combat, and even explore the depths of said seas equipped with a full-on diving suit.

The craziest part, though? The DLC's out in just over a month, on the 15th October. Has the team at Pearl Abyss even slept since the game launched earlier this the year?

I started playing again on Friday. I'd played for about two-hours on launch day, the game ate my save data so I shelved it. I've been playing nonstop since that Friday and it just keeps getting better and better. The world is so well designed, the quests are fun, it's obvious they beefed up the story, the combat is slick. I went into a quarry yesterday with hundreds of enemies and managed to take them all down, I've never seen that many enemies on screen at once. I've been staying up until all hours of the morning playing it. I've renamed it Crimson Addiction. So more content? I'm there for it.

@VenomUK I agree... what Pearl Abyss is doing surpasses (in my opinion) other game studios. I liked the game a lot and can completely get lost in it too... I am so ready for what Pearl Abyss will do next

@Reeneman Oh, it's almost certainly not. South Korea's gaming industry is pretty notorious for not exactly promoting work-life balance. You can be sure that's why their studios sometimes give out big paydays to their staff when a game hits as an overwhelming commercial success - with Crimson Desert most recently, Stellar Blade before that - because those employees will have sacrificed a lot both professionally and personally to get that product out to market.

In much the same way as Chinese developers such as Hoyoverse hit a release cadence that other studios could never aspire to, what Pearl Abyss have managed to achieve with Crimson Desert post-launch probably wouldn't be possible in other countries without breaking labour laws left right and centre.
