Sony’s supercharged PS5 Pro hardware model is selling out in the US as GTA 6 fever takes hold – despite an ongoing blackout protest taking place against PlayStation hardware.
Fans have mobilised to keep their consoles unplugged indefinitely, but such is the demand for the PS5’s most powerful model that third-party sellers are charging as much as $1,300 for the device on Amazon. That’s a huge mark-up on its $900 MSRP.
Stores like Best Buy and Target are also out of stock, although the former is flogging “open box” units just below MSRP.

You can also still get a brand new model through PS Direct, with no mark-up or hidden expenses.
GTA 6 has been described by tech experts as the “most impressive example of real-time rendering we’ve ever seen”, and while a 60fps option looks unlikely, many want to enjoy it in the best condition possible.
PS5 Pro is currently the most powerful console on the market, and Rockstar has said all along that the game will “play best” on Sony’s devices, as it’s the lead platform for the game.
