The extent of Sony’s marketing alliance with Rockstar on GTA 6 is gradually beginning to emerge, and it’s looking like a full-blown collaboration between the pair.
After initially declaring the anticipated open world “plays best” on PS5 via the PS Blog, now the developer itself has started using the slogan on its social media accounts.
A new post, encouraging you to “pre-order now on PS5” includes an image of the game’s cover art and a custom logo saying ‘Plays Best on PS5’.
If you click through the link to Rockstar’s website, you’ll see the same text on the dev’s website.
What’s particularly interesting about this is if you visit the same URL directly, the ‘Plays Best on PS5’ symbol is replaced with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S logos, so this is something that only appears when you access the page through a specific link.
Nevertheless, I imagine this marketing is going to be pretty effective.
In reality, Sony’s system is unlikely to have many meaningful advantages over the Xbox Series X|S version – things like haptic feedback and 3D audio are among those being touted – but for casual consumers who watch the commercials, they’re probably not going to look too deeply into the facts.
Unsurprisingly, the title’s already the number one game around the world on the PS Store, and some metrics claim it’s being pre-ordered at a ratio of 8:1 on the PS5 compared to the Xbox.
One thing you probably shouldn’t expect on any PS5 console, though, is 60fps!
