Retro Beat-'Em-Up Bros, This PS5 Brawler Based on The Walking Dead Looks All Right 1

I’ve always enjoyed retro beat-’em-ups, and the genre has enjoyed a bit of a renaissance in the last few years, with games like Marvel Cosmic Invasion and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge.

I don’t expect The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival to be anywhere near as good as those two, but it does look like it’ll scratch an itch, when it releases from 18th September.

The game will be available in two guises, with the following content included:

Standard Edition ($19.99 / £17.99 / €19.99)

  • A copy of the game
  • Pre-order bonus downloadable content “Golden Survival Pack” – Gold-polished gear for brutal fights and last stands!

Deluxe Edition ($29.99 / £29.99 / €29.99)

  • A copy of the game
  • Pre-order bonus downloadable content “Golden Survival Pack” – Gold-polished gear for brutal fights and last stands!
  • Downloadable content “Arcade Apocalypse Pack”
    • Two weapon skins – Tactical Magnum and Unlockable Mystery weapon skins
    • One character skin – Civic Republic Military Rick
    • The Walker Pit – Endless survival combat mode
    • “HELL ON EARTH” difficulty mode – Hardcore Mode without checkpoints
    • Digital soundtrack

Inspired specifically by the television adaptation of the popular Robert Kirkman comic book, the game will feature multiple characters from the source material, each with unique moves and abilities.

I think what’s interesting here is that this isn’t an out-and-out melee brawler; while you will be fighting in close-quarters skirmishes, you’ll also have access to firearms and crossbows, which will add some range to the action.

It’s a bit of a shame to see gameplay modes, like the highest difficulty setting and endless survival mode locked behind the Deluxe Edition. But I suppose if you’re not interested in those extras, it’s good to have a cheaper option available.

Nevertheless, I quite like the look and presentation on this, even though I’m not expecting it to be a game that will necessarily live long in the memory.
