Dying Light: The Beast PS5

Techland has shared it will be providing some form of refund to owners of the PS4 version of Dying Light 2, as the team has cancelled the last-gen port of Dying Light: The Beast.

This is because when Dying Light 2 originally launched, it sold a season pass promising two pieces of DLC. The first one launched for both PS5 and PS4, and the second became The Beast, which released as a standalone product. Ultimate Edition owners on PS5 still got access to The Beast while Techland said it would continue work on the PS4 version.

Now, the PS4 version is no longer happening.

The team said in a social media statement that bringing The Beast to last-gen boxes would compromise the experience too much. "This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind. Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience."

Techland apologised for the cancellation and said anyone "who was expecting to play on either platform will be eligible for a refund".

This is not the first time a Dying Light product has been cancelled, as the first game was originally planned for PS3 but was later scrapped for a PS4-only launch.

Anyone who was expecting to play Dying Light: The Beast on PS4 will have to miss out on "the series as its best". In our PS5 review, we awarded an 8/10 rating and said: "It embraces its silliness in the best ways across its ridiculous story, gorily violent combat, and fun to explore setting. Some level-gating issues in co-op and duller flatter terrain hold it back in spots, but to us this is the best Dying Light yet."
