Fallout 5 is in pre-production at Bethesda Game Studios, with the anticipated sequel being the “long-range destination” for the dev.
In the meantime, it’s focusing its energy on The Elder Scrolls 6, announced several years ago.
According to the studio, this remains its “primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise”.
In a statement, the studio said it’s loving the way the Skyrim successor looks, but didn’t provide a timeline for its release:

“With over 65 million copies sold, players are still exploring Skyrim 15 years later, but we know it’s been a very long wait for the sequel. The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.”
Both Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6 will be powered by Creation Engine 3, an updated version of the firm’s engine designed to “power the next generation of Bethesda RPGs”.
The studio says: “It allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games.”
In addition to remasters of fan faves Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, Bethesda Game Studios has also announced it’s partnering with Obsidian Entertainment on another new Fallout project, as previously reported.
This is all part of Xbox’s decision to double-down on flagship franchises. It’ll be interesting to see how many of these games release on PlayStation under Microsoft’s revived exclusivity mandate.
Bethesda Game Studios was also rocked recently by mass Xbox layoffs, leading to protests at the company this week.
