God of War Laufey is taking the series in a slightly different direction, focusing on Kratos’ late wife Faye and her journey through the afterlife, the Everywhen.
But that doesn’t mean Kratos’ story is over – not by a long stretch.
Speaking as part of a YouTube video, Santa Monica Studio’s Head of Creative Cory Barlog stressed “there’s always going to be games about Kratos [and] we’re super excited about that”.
Game Director Ariel Lawrence added: “We can’t not tell stories about the big guy!”
And now, responding to a fan on X (or Twitter), the official Santa Monica Studio account has chimed in on the topic.
It said:
“Kratos is the God of War – we have many more stories to tell with him. For now, we’re excited to take fans on a journey into the afterlife of the gods with Faye and hope you’ll come along for the ride!”
So this basically confirms more God of War games are in the early stages of development, focusing on where Kratos goes next.
Obviously we know there’s the God of War Trilogy Remake in the works, but with Barlog taking on a new role as Head of Creative, I suspect he’s probably already deep into the process of planning out the next game.
