This Single Player PS5 Action RPG Draws from the Strange Tales of Chinese Literature 1

I know it can sometimes feel like there’s a new Chinese action RPG announced every other week, but Sword of Legends sure has potential.

First announced back at Gamescom Opening Night Live last August, this game is the first title in the long-running Gujian series to get a Western release.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and “coming soon” to the PS5, the release promises to draw from “the strange tales of classic Chinese literature, where mortals, gods, and wandering souls walk the same earth”.

This latest clip shows off a boss battle against a floating cape-wielder named Kong Kong Zi, a “theatrical adversary whose every move is staged as a piece of Traditional Chinese Conjuring, the centuries-old Chinese tradition of close-up stage magic”.

While it may instantly draw comparisons to other action RPG games, the presentation is undeniably impressive.

As mentioned above, there’s no release date attached to this one just yet, but the press release does stress it’s “coming soon” to PS5, so make of that what you will.
