'They Said I'm Crazy': Kojima's New Single Player Horror Like Nothing Seen Before 1

It’s still not clear whether Hideo Kojima’s upcoming horror OD, starring Hunter Schafer among others, will release on the PS5 – it’s published by Xbox Game Studios at a time when the firm is once again revisiting console exclusivity, of course.

But if it does, we can expect something truly groundbreaking, according to an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly.

While the Death Stranding maker stopped short of sharing any specific details, he described it as “something no one has ever seen before”.

Intriguingly, he implied the single player horror game will be scarier than any title that has come before it – but also hinted those who get too frightened will be able to continue playing.

He said:

“I wanted to go beyond the limit of the ‘scariness’ that other games had reached. It’s a single player game, and I wanted to make it as scary as possible. But for those that might stop playing when it gets too scary, I have thought of a system that will allow them to keep going. I can’t say much more, because it’ll give too much of a hint on the system, and I could get in trouble for saying too much!”

I’m intrigued by how something like this could possibly work; wouldn’t it change the very nature of the game if it dialled down the horror for those who are finding it too scary?

Kojima says publishers thought he was “crazy” when he was pitching the game, but I also find it difficult to believe anyone would pass up on a new title from one of the industry’s most imaginative minds.

Either way, work is underway in earnest on this title right now, although it’s still unclear when it’ll come out – and, as mentioned above, if it’ll even be available on PlayStation at all.
