Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), or PlayStation to most of us, paid a visit to Kojima Productions in Tokyo recently, and it begs the question — what was discussed?
Yesterday, 24th February 2026, Hideo Kojima posted about the platform holder's presence at his studio, and it looks as though the team brought with them a commemorative plaque for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
That's probably not the sole reason for so many SIE staffers heading over to Japan, though, and we're wondering if Kojima's recent trailer-editing spree might have had something to do with the meeting.
Before the most recent State of Play, Kojima posted about editing together a new trailer, and most assumed this would be part of Sony's presentation.
Indeed, there was a trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach's PC port during the State of Play, so many of us thought that was put to bed.
However, Kojima continued posting about his editing work after the State of Play aired, which means he was either posting about a different trailer than the one in the show, or he quickly began work on something else.
Anyway, what's interesting is that this trailer (which he completed on 19th February) was the subject of a special viewing, happening the same day as SIE's visit to the studio.
The implication is that Kojima cut together this mysterious trailer in order to show it to PlayStation. It's unlikely to be the DS2 PC trailer, because that's been and gone.
So, what is it?
Fans are somewhat split on the matter; some think it might be a new trailer for horror game OD, and that it might be coming to PS5 after all. Others say it could be related to Physint, the ambitious stealth action game Kojima Productions is making with Sony.
Whatever the case, it certainly seems like PlayStation's visit to the studio had something interesting going on. Exactly when we'll have an inkling as to what was shown is unclear, but it's probably safe to say Kojima Productions' relationship with SIE is assured at this point.

Maybe they want to acquire him.
And then shut it all down within a few years.
Death Stranding for Switch 2 perhaps?
Hope it's OD and it's coming soon; it's been years! Too soon for Physint.
Possibly Hermen the clown wants a Death Stranding live service game. He needs it in his vein asap.
@Grumblevolcano Why would playstation be at Kojima for a switch 2 ver. of Death Stranding ? lmao
@StitchJones Why would the publisher of a game paying the bills on said game who is paying for development and publishing said game on PC go about a Switch 2 version of said game?
Money.
@Grumblevolcano Kojima owned DS IP so he doesn't need SIE permission or them needs to visit his studio if he wants to port the game for Switch 2.
It's likely PHYSINT, Kojima does like to show something relatively early like he did with Death Stranding.
Probably his next game he's working on with Playstation Physint.
Sony and Kojima are like best buds at this point. I do feel like he'd be cool to hangout with for a week and watch his process. Some of the pundits I watch that cover games say he's awesome.
Sony is about to shut down kojima productions.
@Haruki_NLI damnit! I made the same comment basically before reading yours. 🤷♂️
In a perfect world, it was a Kojima showcase with OD as a 2026 release, Physint is far further along than we realized, and Policenauts and Snatcher are remastered for modern consoles. There was even a surprise third game that no one knows about! Sony execs then played Death Stranding 1 and 2 ports for Switch 2 with exclusive Mario themed content where you can acquire Cappy for Sam to wear.
I’m delusional. I know. I’ll let myself out.
So everyone’s just gonna keep trolling the Bluepoint thing on every post about more important devs? Um, OK…
@AhmadSumadi give it a few weeks ppl will forget , not to mention Nixxes pretty much filled in for what bluepoint did and worked on the ps5 versions of last of us 1+2 , and horizon zero dawn , which all 3 look amazing on the ps5 pro. not to mention sony has already said they are looking at the staff from bluepoint and plan on keeping a lot of them to work at their other studios. so realistically this could end up better.
@somnambulance i'll take that perfect world statement and take it like 100 times beyond that knowing this is 99.99% not the case , but what if sony did the impossible and were able to talk konami into letting them make a metal gear solid game ( which they are out sourcing most of their games as it is ) , and Physint is actually a metal gear solid game.
@twitchtvpat If Physint is Metal Gear… all those tin foil hat conspiracies over the years would’ve amounted to something. Never Be Game Over!
@AhmadSumadi yes. If you don’t keep reminding them of their screw ups they’ll keep repeating it. They don’t learn by one bonk on the snout it needs to be constant to change behavior. Do you think dogs learn to not crap in the house if you shake your finger at it once and move on?
@StitchJones @PuppetMaster I was thinking that Sony might be the publisher of a potential Switch 2 port like what happened with the Helldivers 2 Xbox port.
They're probably reviewing all of their studios/ published games, hence bluepoint recent closure.
Maybe they're already working on Physint, which would be great. I couldn't care less about a possible Switch 2 port of DS2, though
Maybe they spent the money they saved on Bluepoint buying the metal gear ip from Konami and.. no no that would be a good thing to do wouldn’t it.. silly me
@GamingGod i doubt they would buy the ip , but hear me out konami did have a big part in the last state of play , and konami does have a bunch more to announce. i don't think its going to happen , but im not going to say its impossible either.
@Haruki_NLI Oh really? duhhhhhhhh lmao clown. Sony would just make that decision on the IP. They would not develop the game. Use your head before you get all sarcastic in your reply thinking you are the smartest guy in the room.
and
@Grumblevolcano I'm not saying its impossible and that game won't end up on switch, who knows and whatever. I'm saying that isn't the kind of business that Sony would go out there in person with Kojima to handle.
thankfully kojima is smart enough not to be acquired by sony. 5 or 10 years ago, i would have said that would be an ideal situation for both parties. so much has changed. looking forward to one last stealth game from kojima. make the game of your dreams without any interferance from the suits.
@StitchJones Who said I'm the smartest guy in the room? I'm sure not. I didn't mean to cause any offense. Sorry.
@Porco im pretty sure its a ps5 exclusive though w/ pc release , but from what i've seen sony is funding it like they did with death stranding stuff.
@twitchtvpat yea, it's likely sony will publish his new game as well, but i'm confident that he has free creative control to do whatever he wants with the current agreement, as we have already seen with the death stranding games. no typical AAA publisher would ever touch those projects if not for the kojima brand recognition. that said, i think kojma has had enough financial success now to self publish his own games going forward if he chose to... but with his current agreement and creative freedom with sony, there is no need to take the finanical risk in doing so (all this can change in the future of course). he has since acquired the IP of death stranding so he is certainly doing well financially. one thing is for certain: kojima productions will never be acquired by anyone and for good reason. even sony cannot be trusted to make the right decisions these days and kojima productions could very well be shuttered after a failed project under this iteration of sony managament had they owned his studio.
