I've been keeping an eye on Screenbound for a while now, as it's one of those indie games that's trying something I've never really seen before.
In it, you acquire a Q Boy — a quantum game device that projects a 3D environment based on the 2D level presented on the in-game screen. The result is a game in which you navigate both a 2D and 3D stage at the same time.
Just shown off at Day of the Devs, here's the most recent trailer:
It looks fascinating. I can't work out if it's intuitive to play, but the execution looks solid and just the potential of the idea is really exciting.

Screenbound's worlds are based on cartridges you insert into the Q Boy; the first is inspired by side-scrolling platformers, while the second is based on top-down action adventures.
Exploring 3D and 2D spaces simultaneously seems like it could be tough to get your head around, but hey, maybe when you're playing, it all makes sense.
The good news is that Screenbound is coming to PS5 on 10th September, 2026, so there isn't much longer before we can find out for ourselves.
I'm so intrigued by this one, but what about you? Tell us in the comments section below.
