Until they launch on the service, it's never a sure thing if a PS Plus Premium retro release will feature Trophies on PS5 and PS4. Some do, some don't.
Fortunately, the latest addition to the classic games library comes fully furnished with a set of digital trinkets to earn.
Gitaroo Man, from Koei Tecmo and Liona Interactive (then known as iNiS), is a rhythm adventure game released on PS2 in the early noughties.
It's now available as part of PS Plus Premium, or you can purchase it outright. Whichever way you play, you'll be able to collect a total of 21 Trophies, including the hallowed platinum.
Looking through the list, it's a pretty straightforward one. You need to play through the game, obviously, but doing so while earning an A rank on each stage and not missing any notes. You'll also have to complete one stage in the tougher Master's Play difficulty, unlocked after beating the game once.
It doesn't sound very challenging, but even so, it's still very fun to have a selection of Trophies for retro titles. As a big fan of the original game, I'm definitely gonna grab this soon and add that platinum to my collection.
For those who are unfamiliar, Gitaroo Man is similar to PaRappa the Rapper in some ways — it's a stage-based rhythm game with a silly story playing out in between, and you're graded on your performance based on your accuracy.
Instead of rapping, you're playing a weaponised guitar to defeat enemies that challenge you. The music is great, and there are some lovely moments peppered throughout. If you're a PaRappa fan, you're probably a Gitaroo one too.
Whether you're bothered about Trophies or not, I'd recommend giving this game a try, but it's nice that extra incentive is there for those that want it.
