Halo Campaign Evolved Physical PS5

If you were hoping to pick up a physical copy of Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5, take heed: the game won't be playable straight off the disc.

Another example of something that's becoming an increasingly common trend, you'll need to pull a "content download" before jumping into Master Chief's very first PlayStation excursion.

This is according to updated listings for the game across various retail websites, including Amazon. Even the box art comes with a disclaimer at the bottom.

Of course, because Campaign Evolved is a purely single player experience — the remake skips the original title's multiplayer component entirely — you may have assumed that no extra data would be necessary to actually play it.

But no, it falls in line with other unplayable-without-a-download discs like Starfield, Crimson Desert, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and many more.

For those interested in building a physical library, especially with preservation in mind, moves like this are a nightmare. If there comes a time when the game's support is taken offline, the disc becomes little more than an expensive coaster.
