Here’s one I sure as hell didn’t have on my bingo card for SGF tonight: Guild Wars 3 is coming to the PS5.
Just to be clear about this: this marks the first time any Guild Wars game has ever launched on console, so it’s a big deal.
Obviously, this one is quite a long way away – in fact, the first beta will not take place until late next year.
But here’s the general overview so you know what to expect when it eventually launches:
“Guild Wars 3 is set in the Tyrian region of Orr, a vast wilderness frontier imbued with the world’s magic. Nature entities with strong connections to the land called Vael spirits embody the vitality of this lush, verdant landscape. Various guilds are engaged in conflict over how to protect or exploit the bounty beyond civilization’s borders. These multitudinous spirits will vary in size and influence within the ecosystems around them, with the most notable of these being the Seeker. As seen in the trailer, every player’s Seeker will serve as a connection to the spirits of Orr and a mount that will carry them on their journeys through the game’s open world.”

While MMOs are generally the domain of the PC, they have found success on consoles over the years, with Final Fantasy 14 probably being the best example.
Guild Wars 3 should make a compelling addition to the PS5’s library when it eventually launches, then.

I Still think they should port the first 2 games as well.
Finally a guild wars game on consoles. They promised guild wars 2 on ps3 back in the day.
Ill jump on this day one
I never got into Guild Wars, but a friend of mine has been playing GW2 since it launched in 2012. My MMO preference was WoW or FF14 for the familiar trinity of Tank/Healer/DPS group dungeons and raids. But I am interested in how GW3 turns out. I got some serious Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom vibes from the trailer.
@Areus The first one could be done easily and might even happen cause they just ported it to mobile.
GW2 is a different beast and is not very well optimised. Devs also said that the engine can't be ported and it's not gonna happen. Either way, this is fine cause GW3 is a prequel and no knowledge of earlier games set in the future is required.
Pretty fed up with these pretentious trailers that tell you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the game. What a waste of my time.
I'm none the wiser other than it's supposedly happening.
I bought GW2 at launch. The engine was always a problem and for years it had frame rate drops that were out of proportion to the hardware you were using. I can see why it's never come to console.
Be interesting to see the direction it goes, with MMO's having become very single player activity focussed since GW2's release, and even dungeons/raids can be completed with bots these days in many games.
People want good PVE content that can be played Solo in short bursts, and PVP is not going to pull in many punters. I'd suggest that cross progression has to be essential too.
