One thing I certainly wasn't expecting to see during Sony's recent State of Play was a prequel to Dave the Diver, but here we are.
The game is called Bancho the Chef, and as the name suggests, it follows the journey of Bancho and how he becomes the highly-skilled culinary master we see in the original.
Adopting a sort-of low poly 3D style instead of Dave the Diver's pixel art, Bancho the Chef charts the character's journey across Asia to hone his skills in the art of cooking.

It looks like the gameplay will be varied as you play various cooking minigames. As well as that, you'll engage in other activities like washing dishes, fishing, and petting cats, so says the PS Blog.
I really like the look of this; Bancho is one of the best characters in the original game, and I'm so glad we get to see his origins in a standalone adventure. There's no release date attached, but hopefully it's not too far off.

Love dave the diver, so I am looking forward to more of Bancho’s story.
This was such a pleasant surprise from the showcase. I have a sad feeling it's gonna get overlooked by some of the other announcements, but I'm genuinely keen on it.
