This is an insane decision. Warzone plays perfectly well on the ps4 and the amount of people still playing on their ps4's must be bloody fuming and rightly so. I played warzone to death on my ps4 and when I got my ps5 and installed warzone it looked a bit better and ran smoother but it wasn't a massive upgrade. Really I wonder what they are thinking of sometimes.

@Northern_munkey I think they're probably moving it over to whatever the MW4 engine will be. Activision likes to pretend that Warzone and the annual CoD entry aren't the same product, but they really are. I'm pretty sure you even need a large portion of BO7 installed to even get Warzone running right now.

@wildcat_kickz I installed warzone the other day to see how it runs on the ps5 Pro and it did install BO7 or something related to it. What's with all the adverts between rounds? I played it for an hour or so then uninstalled it because it was just advertisement after advertisement.

You will own nothing, you will be enslaved to a launcher that spams you with ads and you will be groomed into spending real money on in-game cosmetics and other microtransactions while it’s all disguised as an online multiplayer shooter experience, and you will do so at their pace and on the hardware they decide. To be fair this isn’t only Microsoft’s vision for the future, probably all of big tech, but…yeah.

People who are still playing on PS4 would have been the ones buying PS5 right had it followed tradition of being almost sub $300 right now.

@Balaam_ I share your pessimism/cynicism but no one has to do any of those things if they can think freely and have agency. I don't have social media because it's a cesspool. I limit my streaming subscriptions because I can't warrant paying for more than three at any given time. I moved to PC to escape paid online gaming and expensive storefronts. I wait for sales/used games/rips if I don't like a publisher or developers practices. It does mean making sacrifices occasionally but only mindless sheep will embrace these crappy potential shifts in our collective culture.

£300 is about the going rate for a 2nd hand one on Facebook marketplace where I live... Admittedly it's a gamble unless you know who you're buying from. At least if you buy a pre owned one from a shop you'll have some kind of warranty to fall back on.

If Liam was playing this during COVID that's 6 years ago. No company should be expected to support a game for more than 5 years on any platform. I mean yeah it sucks if you just bought the game and a PS4 to play it on but that's kinda on you in 2026.

I'm not pro MS, CoD or even capitalism just acknowledging everything ends eventually, and 5 years seems a decent amount of time to get your money's worth out of a video game. I guess I save my vitriol for garbage decisions like putting a game on PS4 but the dlc only on PS5 b/c "clouds". Like what!?!? 🤬

@Balaam_ welcome to Sony chasing a game as big as COD all the while buying a company that took away content you paid for with Bungie in Destiny. Something you thought you owned and could play was GONE. The whole industry is moving towards bad behavior’s as tech has pushed us past the point of buying a cart and sticking it into the machine.

@Northern_munkey Yeah, I'm not a fan of Warzone at the moment. Last time I played they were doing something called Black Ops Royale or something like that and I didn't enjoy it much.

The whole CoD launcher is an absolute mess. I even need parts of BO7 (which I've never bought) installed in order to play any part of BO6. Turns BO6 into like a 300GB game. I deleted it and reinstalled MW3, which I still think has the best MP in the series so far. There's like 40-50 MP maps on rotation from MW2 2009, MW2 2022, and tons of others added after launch.

For many when GTA 6 hits it’s not gonna matter to much for a while and I like the Battlefield series better anyway for online. And I have my ps5 in one room and my ps4 in my basement. PS4 imo cannot be forgotten just yet being such an amazing console.

@Member_the_game £300 is about $400 USD, so basically the price range I mentioned originally. And that's probably before used prices skyrocket later this year due to GTA 6. If people could afford $400, they would have already bought one.

Normally, by this point in the generation, we would have been able to purchase a PS5 for $300 and like 2 games...

@Northern_munkey I recently played Call of duty online on: PSvita, Wii, and Nintendo DS.

I'm pretty sure statistically there's a few more people than that on PS4/XB1 still playing and spending a ton of cash.

I'm guessing the only reason to ditch em is if the cost of maintaining those versions outweigh the profits. Maybe Microsoft decided they could lay off more staff if they stop supporting that version.

I wonder if we'll see a surge of ps5 and xbox sales this holiday since there's still a few million people playing on last generation

Not especially well off no, I'm just sensible / careful with my money.

I bought the Pro for £639 when it was on sale (before the price hike) from a shop called Argos, they have an account system that allows me to pay for it over 12 months interest free.

After selling my OG PS5 for £300 that means in reality the Pro cost me £339.

£339 spread over a 12 month period is just over £28 per month.

The only reason I did it was because it was interest free, if there was any interest rates involved I wouldn't have bothered because I'll never pay more for anything than I need too.

Same with PS plus Extra/Premium..... I've never once paid full price for it, I always buy it when it's on sale and if necessary I'll let my subscription expire and wait for the next sale.

Nice of you to make those assumptions about me though because I agonised for months over upgrading to a Pro, it was just the imminent price hike that gave me the Push I needed 👍

@Northern_munkey maybe they could do a legacy app thats left in the current state to allow PS4 users to continue playing.

But the point is its very much attached and so if their dropping current gen support, they can't do that halfbaked, Warzone is part and parcel with the overal systems and engine of CoD and if MW4 is taking that to the next stage and unshackling it from the 12 year old systems, this is a good thing.

People really need to accept it now, PS4 has been supported so much longer then older generations ever have been, its really now time to move on.

@Henchdog its no different to any other live service game dropping the older systems. It limits what they can achieve when they have to accommodate for the extremely outdated parts in a PS4.

CoD held on to the older gen way longer then it should've in my honest opinion, it should've dropped it a few years ago.

Its just a weird notion we seem to have now, that companies must continue to support these older systems forever, they have to drop it sometime and to be honest they've been generous allowing it for as long as they have.
