Most games feel like they were written by five-year-olds, but this one actually was!
Japanese-style turn-based RPG Axe Cop is launching on the PS5 and PS4 this week, from 4th May.
And its big gimmick is that its story was penned by Malachai Nicolle, a “literal five-year-old”, as the press release puts it.

Some of you may already be familiar with this franchise when it launched as a webcomic back in 2009, with Malachai credited as its author at the age of just five-years-old.
The art was drawn by older brother Ethan Nicolle, and the series gained enough popularity that it was later published in print – and even adapted into a television show, starring Nick Offerman.
Here’s a bit more background, courtesy of the game’s blurb:
“Meet Malachai Nicolle, age five, the narrative director of Axe Cop. He likes dinosaurs, warthogs, and Santa. Malachai pits Axe Cop and his team of strong fighters against the most deadly, disgusting, and horrifying bad guys his imagination can come up with.
Take on missions against his most devious enemies such as Bad Santa Claus, Dr. Stinkyhead, Dr. Doo doo and more! Axe Cop is great for casual and hardcore RPG gamers alike, offering plenty of strategy, quests and story for any gamer to sink their axe into!”
The press release says you can expect “classic RPG combat” featuring virtually every character from the original Axe Cop source material – including “even obscure ones like El Fuego, a wrestler who was turned into a potato”.
Silly stuff, then, but the game will cost just $9.99 on the PS Store. This one has been available on Steam for several years already, where it’s attracted largely positive reviews over time.
