Modern Warfare 4 Wants You to Pre-Order So You Can Help Test Its PS5 Launch 1

You’ll get early access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s open beta if you pre-order the game on the PS5.

Activision is activating its usual marketing tactic with this year’s game, and digital pre-orders are already available on the PS Store.

Physical pre-orders will also include access to the beta, but you’ll need to communicate with your chosen retailer to better understand how codes will be delivered.

Amusingly, the official website says this is your opportunity to “provide essential feedback to help ensure the best day one experience possible when the game launches on 23rd October”.

I understand inherently what the publisher’s trying to say here, but I do think it’s amusing that a pre-order perk is framed as an opportunity to “help ensure the best day one experience possible”. Do the marketers who write these things ever actually think about what they’re saying?

Anyway, this being framed as early access to an open beta suggests everyone will be invited in eventually, so you won’t necessarily need to pre-order the game to try it before launch.

Dates for the beta haven’t been determined just yet, and Activision says it’ll announce additional information in due course.

It’s a big year for Call of Duty after last year’s disastrous Black Ops 7, which still ended up selling well as all games in the series tend to, but represented a significant downturn compared to its predecessors.

Parent company Microsoft has been working overtime to help get this series back on track, and has now removed the franchise from Xbox Game Pass, after its gambit reportedly cost the company $300 million.

I expect this year’s title will perform much better, although it’s going to face stiff competition from GTA 6 in November, which could ultimately end up eating its lunch.
