An all-new Dragon Quest Monsters game has been announced, and it's "coming soon" to PS5.
The intriguingly titled Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is actually called Dragon Quest Monsters 4 in Japan, so it's another mainline entry and not some kind of spin-off.
As the headline of this article suggests, it's been a long, long time since a Monsters game arrived on PlayStation.
The only one to do it was Dragon Quest Monsters 1+2 all the way back in 2002, on the PS1. And even then, it was only ever released in Japan.

So this marks a pretty big shift for the series in general, which has always revolved around assembling a team of monsters, training them, and partaking in turn-based battles.
For decades now, it's stuck primarily to Nintendo platforms, although the most recent instalment, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, was ported to PC a couple of years ago after a stint of exclusivity on Switch.
We're apparently getting more information on The Withered World in the near future. I can't imagine our first look at gameplay will be too far off, because there's nothing to really learn from the above teaser trailer.
