Yokai Watch's Spiritual Successor Looks Superb, Will Probably Spook PS5 1

There was a time when Yokai Watch was almost as big as Pokémon, but like so many Level-5 properties, the franchise burned bright before it basically disappeared.

Level-5 is taking another bite of the figurative cherry with Holy Horror Mansion, a spiritual successor to its ghoulish RPG series.

As the trailer bluntly explains, this one is “still a ways away”, but you can get a feel for the vibes and graphical style courtesy of this concept trailer.

While no platforms have been announced, the video features Nintendo button prompts, which is to be expected. But based on the Japanese dev’s recent platform decisions, we’d fully expect this to release on the PS5 as well, unless some form of timed exclusivity is signed.

Here’s how the game’s described on its official website:

“The young hero, who lives in a mansion atop the apartment building owned by his grandma, finds a camera in a locked room, encounters a ghost and gets caught up in all kinds of turmoil.”

Unlike other Level-5 properties, Yokai Watch has actually released on PlayStation platforms before, just not worldwide.

Fans may recall that a version of Yokai Watch 4 released on the PS4 in 2019 exclusively in Japan, so there’s some precedent for the franchise on Sony’s formats.
