Well, we didn't see this one coming. When Bandai Namco confirmed that Tekken 8 would be getting a mid-April patch, there were zero expectations — most players just assumed that it would include minor tweaks since it hasn't been billed as a key update.
But as it turns out, patch 3.00.02 — the first patch since the big Season 3 update — is a bit of a game-changer. It's packed with character balance adjustments across a large portion of the cast, nerfing loads of controversial moves.
The immediate reaction to the patch has been incredibly positive, especially by the Tekken community's recent standards. The sentiment here is that the development team has finally taken a sledgehammer to some of the most egregious design choices first introduced by Season 2.

Now, to be clear, this update hasn't reset Tekken 8's obsession with aggressive play or anything like that — but it does take meaningful steps in that general direction. This is the first time in a long time that some of the game's most frustrating characters have been hit in any meaningful way.
For Tekken 8's sake, this has to be the start of a broader approach to try and get hardcore players back onside. The negativity surrounding Season 3 simply couldn't have been left to fester — and so it's good to see Bandai Namco pushing out some big adjustments.
In our humble opinion, Tekken 8 still needs some systematic tweaks for it to reach its true potential — the Heat system remains overtuned in general, and combo length is a clear problem — but with this patch, it feels like some semblance of hope has returned.
