Fable PS5

Microsoft might have made the decision internally to delay Fable out of its Autumn 2026 release window, journalist Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb claims.

Speaking on his podcast earlier this week, Grubb said he's "heard that Fable has been pushed internally". A release this year still sounds like it is on the cards, but Microsoft is said to be "worried" about GTA 6 and Fable's potential proximity to its release.

Right now, Fable is announced for an Autumn 2026 release, a window that covers September, October, and November. A delay could clash with GTA 6, which is on course for a 19th November 2026 launch.

"If it's getting delayed beyond the release of GTA 6, that could push it into December," Grubb explained. He added if it's already pushed into the final month of the year — which is traditionally an extremely quiet month for game releases — then Microsoft might just wait until 2027 to put Fable out.

Microsoft is no stranger to a December game launch, though, as the original Xbox Series X|S and PC versions of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle came out in early December 2024.

Currently, the platform holder is on course for a very strong 2026, as it's got Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Gears of War E-Day also coming to Xbox Series X|S, as the Xbox brand celebrates 25 years in November.

All but Gears of War: E-Day are confirmed for PS5 at the time of writing, but that's likely to change in June as the title will be spotlighted following the Xbox Games Showcase. This means the prequel is likely to launch in 2026, and after Gears of War: Reloaded brought the series to PS5 last year, Gears of War E-Day is expected to follow.
