A movie adaptation of Metal Gear Solid has been attempted for decades, and now a renewed effort from Sony Pictures has given the movie another chance at finally happening. It's signed Final Destination Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein to perform the same role on a Metal Gear Solid flick.
The two directors said they're "thrilled and honoured" to have the opportunity to "bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life". They got their big break on Final Destination Bloodlines, having made indie horror films for years.
Attempts at a Metal Gear Solid movie have been doing the rounds for over a decade now, with Oscar Isaac constantly fan theorised as perfect for the Solid Snake role. Over five years ago, it was reported Isaac did actually join a Metal Gear Solid film project. However, nothing has come of that in the time since.
Do you think a Metal Gear Solid movie will ever actually come out? Predict when this latest attempt will likely die off in the comments below.

They are definitely going to be busy with Sony for the next few years. They are also doing a animated Venom movie which should be badass.
Without Kojima being intimately involved in the project, whatever movie ends up getting made will never be able to compete with the source material. I really wasn’t impressed with the last few Sony movies, aside from the TomHolland Spider-Man’s. The Venoms were all phoned in, and Uncharted hit very weakly (why tf is Tom Holland cast as Nathan Drake when Mark Wahlberg is right. freaking. there.) MGS is one of, if not my all time favorite gaming series yet I have major doubts about this movie. I hope I’m wrong. I would never be happier to be wrong.
Not sure I have much faith in this. Metal Gear’s one of the best series of all time, but Sony’s film division has been phoning in iffy movies the last couple years and using their IPs as a selling point rather than quality. I’d not be surprised if this was another instance of that.
Sony make more tv shows and movies based on games than actual games.
@Balaam_ Are you not a Spider-Verse fan?
@Balaam_ On the same boat mate but since it's Sony and Kojima worked/is still working with Sony we never know how much Sony will ask him to give is insight about the project. By Death Stranding 2 we see how much love he has for the series and how much he would love to still do stuff with it
I'd rather PlayStation Productions were involved cos there output is better then Sony pictures's recent films... except the Spider verse movies.
Never coming out
Get Tomokazu Fukushima involved. He was the real genius behind MGS.
I'm guessing the Jordan Vogt-Roberts film isn't happening anymore then. He still has MGS down as an upcoming project on IMDB but that probably hasn't been updated.
He strangely seems to have disappeared from movie making after Kong: Skull Island.
I don't know what to say other than this sounds like a bad idea.
@Balaam_ Any attempt at recreating what makes MGS what it is, without Kojima, seems destined to fail. And of all people, why would you get the guys who did Final Destination? Such a weird fit. Sony seem intent to sh*t on all their own IP. As you say, I think the Spiderman/ Spiderverse films are the only ones they seem to have got a handle on - but OG Maguire will always be my guy.
For my money, Michael Fassbender was always the perfect actor for both Solid and Liquid Snake. It's more complicated now as he is nearing 50 years old. They will search for a younger actor, for sure. Missed opportunity.
First of all, MGS doesn't comfortably fit in a 2-3 hour movie. Second, what made Sony think this director duo is the right pick for the job!?
@tameshiyaku Too short or too long? If we are talking an adaptation of the first game, It’s only 6 hours from start to finish even as a game.
