The late, great Akira Toriyama contributed directly to the creation of Dragon Ball XenoVerse 3, making the latest entry in Bandai Namco’s juggernaut anime RPG sub-franchise one of his final works before he passed in 2024.
Coming to the PS5 next year, fans may remember this project was previously teased as an AGE 1000 title, featuring a new character design from the series’ aforementioned creator.
This was accidentally labelled ‘XenoVerse 3’ in a few destinations, fuelling speculation that’s what the project would be.

And here we are with the official announcement, made moments ago at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 event in Los Angeles.
Dragon Ball know-it-alls will already know the main series takes place around AGE 700, so the events of this game are set long after that.
We think the trailer does quite a good job of teasing that aspect of the title, but what’s particularly neat is that Toriyama himself had a hand in envisioning the future of the Dragon Ball world before he passed away.
This is shaping up to be a real treat for franchise fans, then, and a huge honour for the teams at Bandai Namco and dev Dimps, who will want to see through his vision.
There’s not a massive amount of information in the trailer – that will come in the future – but the sequel will retain the sub-franchise’s key aspect of enabling you to build out your own hero and role-play within the Dragon Ball world.
Multiplayer will once again comprise a key aspect of the experience as well, as the team acknowledged during the event that “many users enjoy the game together online”, so expect that to be a big emphasis.
Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2, which first released in 2016 on the PS4, would get a surprise PS5 port as recently as 2024. It sold well over 10 million copies, and was a massive hit for Bandai Namco.
Now it’ll be hoping this futuristic vision for the series, paired with Toriyama’s input, will take the new instalment to fresh heights. We certainly love the vibes of the trailer.
