Ratatan, the rhythm strategy game from the minds behind Patapon, now has a release date.

The colourful spiritual successor finally comes to PS5 and PS4 on 16th July, 2026, as revealed in this new trailer:

Ratatan was originally unveiled as a Kickstarter project, which was very successful, and it's now been a good couple of years or so in development.

The game will be quite familiar to fans of Sony's PSP curio Patapon and its sequels — you control an army of diminutive creatures who obey your commands as you input them to the beat of the music. You can attack, march forward, retreat, and so on using simple button combos.

What's different this time is a roguelike structure, meaning your expeditions are made unique with various modifiers for your soldiers and their abilities.

We've been keeping an eye on this for what feels like an eternity, but in just a few months it'll finally be here. As big fans of Patapon, this is definitely something we're curious to try.
