Publisher Atari and developer Fabraz have announced a release date for the unlikely but very real Bubsy 4D.
The 3D platformer is coming to both PS5 and PS4 on 22nd May 2026, as revealed in this new trailer:
After getting a surprising amount of buzz after its announcement last year, the game is now just a few months away.
Bubsy 4D seems like a real attempt to redeem the series, giving you lots of expressive movement options to freely navigate wide open stages.
You'll still be defeating Woolies and collecting balls of yarn, but it looks like a much more competent game than, well, most of the others in the franchise to date.

On top of what looks like a fairly technical platformer at its core is an attractive, cartoonish art style and plenty of quips from Bubsy himself. We're fairly sure you can dial that down if you're not into it.
Anyway, it seems as though we might be in for a good Bubsy game when it shows up later in the year.

Having "might actually be good" in your title does not fill me with any confidence...
What could possibly go wrong?
jk, i'm actually low key excited for this one
Glad to see the series wasn't put on paws.
Folks, if you ever feel like you're never going to make progress in life, remember this...
Bubsy has taken over 30 years to get to have a game that MIGHT actually be good.
30...YEARS...
Please add a spoiler warning for this c**t. Some of us experienced Bubsy 3D at a formative age and still carry the very real trauma to this day.
The fact Bubsy refuses to shut up and die while other franchises sit rotting is insane to me.
Guess there's truth to the old saying about publicity.
„Bubsy“ and „good“ in one sentence is an internationally recognised war crime.
@Jayslow Yeah that's a beating by the humor police man, they're on their way
I have confidence the game will be good cause of their other game Demon Turf. They've shown they can make a good platformer.
@Oram77 it's high praise for a Bubsy game though, which are consistently terrible
I think this looks decent.
It's bubsy though so it could still turn out crap but I'm cautiously optimistic
I love this current landscape where proven indie developers get a crack at reviving dormant platformer franchises. Fabraz (Demon Turf, Demon Tides) is making Bubsy 4D, while Sluggerfly (Hell Pie) is working on Super Meat Boy 3D. Can we get an accomplished indie developer to revive Banjo-Kazooie next?
@ShadowRJ bit harsh, the first one was a solid if not spectacular 2D platformer of the time. Second one not as good, it only went further downhill from there.
