One of Bethesda's most popular series is its nuclear wasteland RPG Fallout, and thanks to a successful TV adaptation, it's back in vogue.
Season 2 is getting underway right now, and in new comments about it and the future of the Fallout games, Bethesda boss Todd Howard has made an interesting remark.
Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Howard says the next main game, Fallout 5, will share a canon with the Fallout TV show.
Responding to a question on whether the show will have an impact on the games going foward, Howard says, "In short, yes."
"Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening," he continues. "We are taking that into account."
So, whenever Fallout 5 rolls around, it can be assumed that whatever occurs in the TV show will leave a mark in the game's world, in some way.
The next question is when we'll actually see a Fallout 5 come to fruition, and the answer is that it's likely to be years away.
Howard has previously stated it will be the team's next game after Elder Scrolls 6, but at this point, there's no telling when that will be done.
Elder Scrolls 6 is still "a long way off" by Howard's own description, though he has also said work is "progressing really well", so it sounds like it's moving, just slowly.
Fallout 5 is probably way down the line, then, but it's interesting to know the TV adaptation will be taken into account when we get there.

Direct impact in 2039 when the game gets released
Not interested.
The show is OK think it captures the feel of the franchise for the most part and has a decent cast. But like Oram says above I think we'll have seen the show ended long before a new game drops. Or will all be living in an actual Fallout setting the way these clowns ruling us are going...
So will seasons 3, 4, & 5 etc. I’d imagine… if Bethesda’s output is anything to go by.
I'm actually really enjoying the show.
Bethesda hasn't made a good Fallout and probably never will.
@Dalamar 3 definitely had its moments - provided you ignore the tiny quantity of side quests, the dull grey/brown asthetic and the stingy ammo supply 🙂....but yeah, 4 was ok at best imho, and the less said on 76 the better 🙂
@Dalamar Yeah I would say FO3 was great, but New Vegas still clears it easily.
There's me thinking Fallout 5 would be out when we get to Series 76 of the show
Oh goody. The show's ''canon''. What joy.
Looking forward to those ghouls with Wolverine healing abilities, power armor that barely works, a Vault-Tec that started WW3 and an NCR that has been nuked to death.
