Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Player Numbers

You should never underestimate the enduring popularity of Dragon Ball — as evidenced by Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

The bombastic fighter, which launched for PS5 back in October of last year, is still attracting a crazy number of players. At least, that's what producer Jun Furutani says.

Speaking after the recent PlayStation Partner Awards in Japan, Furutani revealed that "over 1 million people play the game every month". Zero won an award for "outstanding worldwide sales" during the event.

For a title that's more than a year old — and isn't some kind of free-to-play or live service juggernaut — that's a seriously impressive figure. It's no wonder Bandai Namco has already committed to delivering more DLC and updates in 2026.

Furutani highlights Zero's authenticity as a reason why players keep coming back — the ability to recreate iconic moments from the manga and anime, while also providing a game that's simply fun to pick up and play.

"I think it ultimately comes down to how thoroughly players can experience battles that feel authentically Dragon Ball," he comments.

"I think one of the reasons for its popularity is the legitimate evolution of adding actions that pursue a Dragon Ball-like feel without changing the core battle system."
