Devil Jam Puts a Heavy Metal Riff on Vampire Survivors for PS5 1

We’ve reached the point of Vampire Survivors’ popularity where various other developers are copying it.

Not all of these are worth reporting on, but we do think Devil Jam has some “juice”, so to speak.

The game is a fairly shameless riff on the iconic auto-battler, but it finds a sliver of its own identity through its heavy metal influences.

Looking at the trailer, one of the characters you’ll select is an electric guitar wielding head banger, who can knee-slide to avoid attacks. You’ll get various power-ups and buffs from members of the rock world.

Here’s how the title’s described:

“Battle hordes of demonic monsters, upgrade your abilities, and acquire new skills. Customise your build with hundreds of item combinations and rise through the ranks to fulfil your ultimate metal destiny. Conquer Hell in this thrilling roguelite survivors game!”

There’s no word on a release date for the PS5 version right now, but the PC edition will drop on 3rd November.

The game’s being made by a Belgian studio named Rogueside. It previously worked on the Where’s Waldo-style Hidden Through Time series, so it has some pedigree.

We reckon a title like Devil Jam will live and die by its soundtrack, because this type of gameplay has already been mastered by Vampire Survivors, so we’re not entirely sure how the studio hopes to improve on that.

It’d be cool if the developer is able to license some music from well-known metal artists, as that would really add to its appeal.
