Publisher Koei Tecmo has announced Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake, and the terrifying photography-based survival horror title is in development for PS5.

Bringing back one of the series' best-loved and spookiest entries, the remake (from developer Team Ninja) is due for release in early 2026. Here's the announce trailer:

Crimson Butterfly originally launched in 2003 on PS2, and more than two decades later, it's getting the remake treatment, with "a complete overhaul", according to the press release.

This includes enhanced sound and visuals, as you'd expect, as well as "improvements to core gameplay systems and controls". In other words, it should look and play better than ever on PS5.
