Tomb Raider x Sophie Turner

Game of Thrones and X-Men actor Sophie Turner has been confirmed for the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider TV series from Amazon. The live-action show will begin production in January 2026, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge creating and writing it as well as sharing the executive producer role with Chad Hodge. Jonathan van Tulleken of Top Boy and Shogun fame will serve as director.

On the announcement, Sophie Turner said she's thrilled to be given the chance to play such an iconic character. "They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking."

Phoebe Waller-Bridge then added: "It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming…"

While no plot points have been made public, the Tomb Raider series is being designed to "honour" its legacy and "fresh adventures to fans worldwide". Sophie Turner had been previously tipped for the role of Lara Croft late last year, as it was reported she and Amazon were in talks. Following the success of its Fallout adaptation to TV, the output from Amazon Prime has built up some goodwill in the video game space. Hopefully, that high level of quality carries over to Tomb Raider.
