Destiny 2 Does Its Best Star Wars Impression with Renegades Expansion 1

You can learn a lot about the public sentiment for Destiny 2 by reading the YouTube comments for this new Renegades expansion.

“I’ll just keep playing Helldivers 2,” several of them say. And to think Sony spent $3.5 billion on developer Bungie for its live service expertise, eh?

Look, with Marathon delayed it’s got to keep the lights on somehow. Renegades, due out on 2nd December, is a Star Wars-inspired DLC with LucasFilms’ approval.

It’s perhaps important to note this isn’t Star Wars – it just looks and feels like it. So, it all fits neatly into the game’s existing lore, it’s just got a hint of George Lucas’ film franchise to it.

The blurb explains:

“In the Lawless Frontier, Guardians will take on high-risk, high-reward jobs to complete contracts – a smuggling, bounty hunting, and sabotage – either solo or with a fireteam. These missions span three planets and six maps inspired by iconic Star Wars locations. One feature, Invasion, allows players to opt in for additional challenges and rewards by enabling other Guardians to invade the battlefield. This introduces a layer of strategic unpredictability, where greater risk yields greater rewards.”

In related Destiny 2 news, today sees the release of the Ash & Iron update, which will take you back to “Plaguelands for the first time since the original Destiny to investigate Maya Sundaresh’s experiments”.

The press release adds:

“Players will earn exciting new rewards by battling through Reclaim, a new three-player Fireteam Ops activity where Guardians hunt for Golden Age tech and complete evolving objectives against Vex and Cabal forces in a race against time.”

So, yeah, Destiny 2, huh? That’s a game – a Sony game! A game we’re totally writing about because we really like it, and not because PlayStation acquired the developer.
