Sony has announced in a statement to German outlet GamesWirtschaft it won't be exhibiting at Gamescom next month, marking the sixth year in a row it's skipped the biggest gaming expo in the world.
Since the platform holder hasn't been on the showfloor since 2019, this comes as little surprise. However, the decision to skip the event once again was confirmed in a statement: "Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) currently has no plans to exhibit at Gamescom 2025. However, we look forward to exciting content and releases coming later this year." Sony is confirmed to be exhibiting at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
This means any first-party PS5 titles or games backed by Sony won't be playable on the showfloor, but it doesn't rule out announcements being made at the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase. Third-party efforts will still announce PS5 versions, and feature PlayStation logos in their trailers — it's worth watching regardless of whether Sony is there or not.

Considering Gamescom's track record in recent years, can't say I blame them.
I don't expect any new 1st party announcements until next year tbh.
If it's the sixth year in the row this isn't news...
@themightyant it's no surprise but it is news, SIE made an official statement, as a PlayStation centric website they will report on it.
@Arthur_Morgan I was being flippant, hence the ellipsis, but could have been clearer it was a joke.
Unfortunate, but at least they will be in Tokyo Game Show.
Meanwhile they exhibit at TGS and Shanghai. Talk about how to ignore the markets with most of your fans lol
@themightyant Fair play! My bad I think 🙃
After the awful SGF my expectations for gamescom a below 0 so going to TGS instead is a good choice
Why bother they cancelled all their planned games anyway.
I guess it's because Sony's upcoming 1st party lineup isn't large enough (in terms of quantity) to have a booth at Gamescom.
A theoretical Sony Gamescom 2025 booth would've been Ghost of Yotei and a bunch of 3rd party games meanwhile with there being no booth, the 3rd party games may still be at the event anyway.
In contrast Sony's Gamescom 2019 booth had quite a sizeable number of 1st party games like Dreams, Concrete Genie, MediEvil remake and Death Stranding.
The annual game shows were always a highlight of the year for me. Some were good, some were bad, all at their own levels, but overall they were fun and exciting times. The times have changed. That’s life.
@DonkeyFantasy Everything should take place in murica, the greatest country in the world...
I didn't expect Sony to have anything to show, they are taking their time, using their money for projects and only certain events/or messaging whenever they feel like it. I can see why.
Unless there is enough third parties to show off/aid in support with for this scale, the 1st parties are doing their thing anyway.
The western side are doing fine, the projects they dealt with are in the states they are, many 3rd parties or 1st party to show off at other events. The Asian ones at whichever State of Plays or TGS or others.
They want to balance their Asian partners business relationships and that is totally fine. The western ones unless anything to show why bother? They have their own ways to message as well too.
Indies are shown at other shows or when necessary with Sony's state of plays. So did they have much to show at Gamescom I don't think so.
