Bethesda to Put Oblivion Remastered on a PS5 Disc in New Physical Edition

Yeah, I’m going to wait till I hear whether this actually HAS the game before I get excited.

Microsoft seeing sales must have shocked them already. Todd must have said you know people on PS like physical as well

If this has the game on disc AND comes with a physical map, I'm in.

Yeah hell no I have major buyers remorse for this remaster I certainly don't wanna double dip for it. I did however double dip for the amazing Soul Reaver Remasters got my physical copy a few days ago ^__^🌀

I get a lot of my games from the thegamecollection. Good prices and efficient. Also, I’m glad I didn’t give into the hype and buy oblivion digitally on day 1. I have a massive backlog and can wait for the physical release. Need to support physical otherwise it will die out.

They have absolutely no excuse to not actually put the full game on the disc. If they don't, its so over

I dont have a problem with later after release date disc releases if it contains a fully patched version of the game

Massive disappointment for me. I really wanted it to be a superb remaster but it's bloody awful. I know my opinion will be anathema to the oblivion Faithfull but it really is quite poor. Kudos to the players that can stomach the poor performance and yes I've seen it recently at my friend's who's playing it only because he bought it and wishes he'd bought forza horizon 5 instead.

This is great…but it better have the game on the disc and not just be 80% download.

I hope it contains 85mb of data on disc because it should load faster since there is less data.

Been waiting for a physical release, although I was mostly waiting for performance improvements.

£15 less than the digital version - bit of a no-brainer for those of us with a disc drive.

A Blu-ray disc can't even natively fit the whole game on it. So get ready for the whinners to whine.

@RZ-Atom Yeah, if anyone wants to easily know if this is completely on the Disc(s) wait and see if it ships on 2 cause it'll need to be as it's already like 120GB (not sure after the first major patch, and to delete it to make room a week or two ago)

@Northern_munkey same. One of the worst day one purchases I've ever made. I'm not surprised they are trying to cash in even more though. The game sold massively even on digital.
The game runs like garbage and they didn't improve any of the originals major shortcomings and so far they have put zero noticeable effort into fixing it. Knowing BGS and virtuous, it will likely never get those technical shortcomings addressed.

Fyi: the latest patch didn't address any of the technical shortcomings related to performance (per DF today)

@Onelastgo Which was basically my point, the game is over 100GBs (each PS5 Disc can hold 100GBs) so it'd need to be 2 Discs to be "Complete On Disc" (so very easy to know or not, versus a game that could be on a single Disc not having all the Data on it, like Doom TDA)

For this you'll be able to tell at a glance basically.

It can't fit on one disc so I doubt you'll get it ALL on disc and be feature/content complete and I doubt they'll put it on 2 discs either - just like they did with Indiana Jones. It doesn't mean you can't 'preserve' your right to play in 20/30yrs, you just don't 'delete' from your storage.

Buying Digital may 'preserve' your Library better. Games are locked to your Digital Profile which carries forward across generations, regardless of distribution media. I can play my Digital PS4 games on a PS5 all-digital, they are all in my Library ready to download and if PS6 is all-digital and BC with PS4 onwards, all my Digital games come with me, but none of my Physical games - as long as I sign in with my Playstation Account that has ALL my Digital Licences to play Playstation versions of those games, where ever Playstation goes in the future, my Library is there too...

Otherwise, you'll need to keep your OLD hardware to ensure you can still play Physical games you bought 20yrs or more ago....

Even stranger is collectors editions at 4 times the price that don't have any disc at all, like GOW Ragnarok, DS2, Ghost of Yotei...

@BAMozzy You are aware that if your account gets hacked, banned, or you otherwise lose access to it then that entire digital library you think is ‘preserved’ is now nonexistent.

Not to mention that while digital game sharing is a thing, it has restrictions—I have two consoles, a base PS5 and a Pro. I have two accounts (my main account and a burner to determine if I can obtain 100%+Platinum trophy completion on a given game, seeing as how platform holders refuse to allow users to delete games with partially completed trophies/achievements from our lists…). It’s irritating that any digital game I buy with my main account can only be played on my alt using my ‘home’ console, and not by either account on either machine. With physical media this is a complete non-issue.

If they ever fix the performance I might buy it

@Balaam_ You are aware that if your Physical Hardware/Media gets stolen/damaged/destroyed or breaks down, you lose access to them too. Its only preserved if you do what you can to 'protect' it but that may not be enough from an accidental fire for example.

I'm not on about Game sharing, I'm on about playing on MY account where I choose to sign in and play. I can jump between my Xbox, PC and Cloud enabled devices all playing the same game I bought on Xbox without needing a disc to prove I own it - I just sign in.

As soon as I signed into my Playstaton 5 account the day I set it up, I had my entire PS4 digital library waiting to download/install and I expect them on PS6 too whether it has a Disc drive or not.

I can't play my PS3 library today on my PS3 Slim because none of my DS3's are actually working anymore - at least not wired. My Mario Kart 64 Cart won't let me play on a Switch and if I still had working N64 controllers, a way to plug my N64 into a Display, I could check to see if my Cartridge still works after all these years... but some Carts were temperamental when I last tried to play 20yrs ago. I own Goldeneye on Cart too and Perfect Dark but had to buy Rare Replay to play today...

In 20/30yrs time, you can enjoy playing Oblivion on your PS5 as long as it still works and your disc hasn't corrupted/rotted etc whilst I play it on the latest hardware or even without needing hardware because I bought it digitally.

@Rjak They are releasing a performance patch in the near future...hopefully that helps.

It's sad that it is called "Physical Edition" now instead of it being default.

Alot of work needed before it's a good game unreal 5 is just too unstable and buggy

@RZ-Atom It's called putting the game on 2 discs, which costs very little.

You can call people whiners (or whinners as you said), but if they won't give you the full game, why make a physical copy at all? I'm sorry if people wanting to actually own what they purchase and not wanting to let corporations bend them over hurts your feelings, but physical buyers and collectors don't want an empty piece of plastic with nothing on it. Crazy, I know.

Yeah I don't know man I reinstalled after their latest update was supposed to help performance. It still seemed to have the same problems as when I was playing it at launch. I really just want Tainted Grail to get a decent performance patch. That game is incredible, but the framerate makes me nauseous.

It's not going to be on the disc fully. Isn't the game 140gbs? So no, it's not going to be all on a 100gb bluray disc. I'm not sure why you are all asking this lol.
And it's NOT going to be on 2 discs, not in a million years. Starfield and Forza 8 were both over 100gbs in size at their launches and were both put on a single 50gb bluray for their series x release, with the games labeled in small text on the back that an Internet connection is needed to setup the games.

Will it be 100mbs of data that is only the disc though, for absolutely no reason, that is the question that needs answering when it comes to slimy Xbox.

If it isn't on the disc a recent YouTube video by an infamous Scottish chap summed this practice up quite succinctly. What I hate is when the installation takes hours and that's with a decent internet connection. It's like put the disc in then you can't actually start the game there and then. It's the main if not only reason I subscribe to PSN as it means I can play a digital game whilst a physical release is installing. It also doesn't help with digital the majority of games are actually more expensive than a physical release which makes little sense if they want to push digital only...
