PS Plus title FBC: Firebreak has now surpassed a total of 1 million players, according to developer Remedy Entertainment.
This figure has been reached just over a week after launch, though the multiplayer shooter's early days haven't been particularly smooth sailing.
As Remedy highlights in its social post about the milestone, there's still plenty of room for improvement as the team continues to support the game.
We know there is still a lot of work ahead of us, and we are super-motivated about it. We have a lot of exciting things cooking for Firebreak players! More about that soon.
Of course, the public response to Remedy's player count announcement has attracted naysayers, who point towards the game's concurrent player numbers on Steam as evidence the studio is lying.
While it's true the game has very modest concurrents on Steam — at the time of writing, 84 people are playing it on the platform right now — it's a completely different measure from the 1 million Remedy is touting.
What the studio is highlighting is the total number of unique players having played the game across all platforms. This obviously includes Xbox Series X|S and PS5, where the game is positioned on their respective subscription platforms, Game Pass and PS Plus.
It's very likely, then, that a majority of people hopping into FBC: Firebreak are doing so via their membership to either of these services.
The co-op shooter has had its share of criticism, with very middling reviews from critics and players. In our review, we said that despite a "killer world and aesthetic" and "tight first-person gameplay", it simply "doesn’t have enough of a hook" to stick around long-term.
Hopefully Remedy is able to build something from FBC: Firebreak, and having a million people engage with it to some degree is surely an encouraging sign for the team.
