Atlus apparently can’t keep a secret.

Alleged footage of a Persona 1 Remake has emerged online, although in this age of AI generated content it’s incredibly difficult to ascertain whether this is legit or not.

My jerk reaction is that it’s probably real, as it appears to include reused animations from the unreleased Persona 4 Revival. A similar leak occurred prior to the official announcement of Persona 3 Reload.

But as always, you should take this with a pinch of salt.

The video shows combat featuring characters from Persona 1, alongside Persona 2’s protagonist Tatsuya Suou.

Series producer Kazuhisa Wada has spoken quite candidly about how Persona 1 and 2 remakes are something Atlus should “eventually do”, so this project has been an open secret for some time now.

It’s worth noting that Persona 4 Revival is due out on 17th February, so even if this footage is real, I wouldn’t expect two remakes in the same year. It’s probably still a little way away.

The Tatsuya bit is pretty weird, but can be brushed off as a placeholder, especially if we consider they're also planning remaking P2's duology (why wouldn't they at that point?).

The video looks too high quality and consistent to be AI slop. There's a distinct and clear art direction, the video has some reused animations from P4 Revival. It also screams early investor showcase video with how it's broken down. Not the first time a Sega investor video was leaked - a few years back we got our first look at the Sonic Frontiers beta, P3 Reload and the new Jet Set Radio from one of these leaks.

I'm leaning towards real, but this is probably at least two years away from releasing, 2027 is P4R and likely P6, so late 2028 at minimum. Persona 1 doesn't have the modern Persona formula with the social SIM aspects spread over a year so it'll be a shorter game to remake. You can beat the original in less than 40 hours.
