Industrious Italian developer Milestone is perhaps best known for its realistic racing output, but more recently it’s found success adapting the world of Hot Wheels to consoles. Now it’s turning back time all the way to 1995 by resurrecting ground-breaking cyberpunk racer, Screamer.
The results from this first gameplay trailer show promise, but there’s still work to be done before the title debuts in 2026.
We get a glimpse of a futuristic cityscape, complete with bright neon lights and anime-style advertising boardings. The cars have got a hint of cel-shading to them, giving them a unique look. But we’d like to see a greater sense of speed and more overall effects in the final version, because this looks a little bland as is.

“Drawing inspiration from anime and manga from the ‘80s and ‘90s, the game’s narrative and visual framework will be its beating heart and soul,” the blurb reveals.
“The game features contributions from industry-leading partners, including animated cutscenes created in collaboration with Polygon Pictures – one of the oldest and most renowned Japanese animation studios – and the acclaimed American actor Troy Baker, one of gaming’s most recognisable voices.”
There’s ample reason to be excited for this one, then, and it’s really refreshing to see a racer with a more stylised art direction. We just hope that Milestone can stick the landing come 2026.

Looks cool. It made me think of Auto Modellista. I would love to see that return.
Definitely one to keep an eye on, looks like good arcade fun!
Already wishlisted this, love arcade racers.
Looks very good but, as with all racing games, it all depends on the car handling.
@sanderson72 the Hot Wheels Unleashed games had great handling, so I'm expecting this will, too.
Hot Wheels Unleashed is low-key one of my favourite games from the last five years. 100%'d it three times.
So my eye is definitely on this.
@sanderson72 This does look a bit like Ridge Racer type of handling, which is not my favorite.
I love 80s and 90s anime so this immediately W im super curious to see more
For a game called Screamer, the racing and track design didn’t look very exciting!
I need more Ridge Racer vibe and handling in my life. So I take this gladly.
Running in the 90s more like
Looks okay , but it's no megaRace is it ?
I need a new Road Blasters or Spy Hunter.
I vaguely remember a drifting one that looked fair but otherwise this trailer didn't do much for me.
Artstyle sure, that's fine to see more like GT Cube/Pro Series or Auto Modellista but progression/physics/modes and car mechanics need to count or else no purchase from me.
3rd party or 1st party arcade, sim, simcades are so boring to play these days, none are as mechanically or progression exciting as 5/6th gen, 7th+ gen (had some of it) but 8th gen just made them more bland and cut away things for style, I want that gameplay substance back thanks.
If this is like a combat game like Spyhunter I'm totally ok with that, that gets a pass or a higher praise. Or Mega Race, anti grav in some other way or something interesting.
If it's typical racing it's going to be bland and a non-purchase from me, they lack in depth and push style over substance and I want substance in progression modes (more then 2 and to offer varied rules for those modes/event types) or good mix of car/vehicle types and how they feel/what you CAN do with them.
If it has as much care as Distance or Inertial Drift of modes or interesting ideas, I'm ok with that. But so few if any have done that so to me the racing genre is trash these days.
No unlicensed but motorsports addicted Indie games I am sick to death of them. Make something original no copy paste tracks/cars from reality no matter the artstyle, stop referencing and make your own creations racing devs.
I don't think the essence of the Screamer games is being shown. It's too early in dev, and it looks generic. This is indicative of an identity crisis behind the scenes. Notice how much DNA from Ridge Racer and Burnout are "borrowed" here?
I really want this to be good and do well, but they have to go back to their roots.
