Bandai Namco's latest Pac-Man game doesn't even have Pac-Man in the title, so it's no surprise that Shadow Labyrinth is a very different interpretation of the classic arcade series.

However, a new gameplay trailer for the side-scrolling action title unveils stages that'll look much more familiar to fans of the classics.

It seems that, at certain points in the game, you'll take direct control of Pac-Man and enter what look like more traditional mazes, though the trailer quickly makes it clear that these are anything but your typical levels.

Various new ways of moving around the stages are introduced, like shooting through speed boosts, ricocheting off bounce pads, and changing level layouts by eating pellets to drop blocks.

It seems you'll also fight large scale bosses in these neon-lit levels or take on challenges like eating a certain number of ghosts.

Bamco is really exploring a lot of new territory for Pac-Man in Shadow Labyrinth, which is by-and-large a 2D action platformer with a dark tone and horrible monsters to fight. Now we know there are various more spins on the classic gameplay too, and it looks pretty good.

Shadow Labyrinth is coming to PS5 on 18th July 2025. What do you make of this new gameplay? Grab a snack in the comments section below.
