Sony’s new PS5 commercial wants you to play the unmissable.

Part of a new global marketing campaign launching alongside the platform holder’s Days of Play promotion, the overall theme of the advert is to give the impression you simply can’t miss out on the games available for Sony’s latest console.

Some of the titles featured include Ghost of Yotei, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Helldivers 2, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Marathon, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Astro Bot.

As the montage of different games plays, a narrator delivers the following dramatic soliloquy:

“Some say you can’t have it all. Clearly, they’ve never been here. Here every world, every story is too good to miss. This is where unbelievable shows up to play. This place is different from the rest. And once you’re in it, there’s no going back. Play the unmissable on PS5.”

Of course, the commercial has already attracted criticism, with numerous YouTube commentators taking the opportunity to remind Sony some of the games listed can be played on PC. There’s also condemnation of the company’s widely publicised live service strategy.

But from where we’re sitting, there’s a lot of good games in the trailer – and many of them are exclusive to PS5, at least until they get their inevitable PC ports a few years down the line.

While we agree the organisation’s live service strategy has been awfully executed, it’s not like it’s come at the expense of great single player content – after all, Astro Bot was the undisputed Game of the Year last year, and we’d be shocked if Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach aren’t in the running come Christmas time.
