GTA 6's PS5 Open World Looks Like Rockstar's Best Ever 1

No one does open worlds quite like Rockstar.

If you go back and boot up GTA 5 right now, you’ll find its sandbox is denser and more dynamic than practically everything that’s followed since. And let’s not even get started on Red Dead Redemption 2, which is an extraordinary technical accomplishment.

But it looks like GTA 6 will take everything the legendary developer’s learned over the past few decades and pump it up.

For those of you who haven’t been following, the new game takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, a location loosely based on Florida. That means it mixes bright, beautiful beaches with amusement parks, bustling sea ports, and huge open expanses.

The main attraction of the game will of course be Vice City, the metropolis inspired by Miami. You’ll find beaches, basketball courts, big wheels, and pastel art graffiti. This is where we suspect the bulk of GTA 6’s quests will take place.

But there’s much more to the open world than just Vice City, as you’ll also be able to explore the tropical seaport of Leonida Keys. This looks a lot more rugged and laidback than the main city, with rustic bars and boat parties.

One interesting thing that Rockstar’s been teasing is all of the wildlife systems it debuted in Red Dead Redemption 2. It looks like you’ll be able to go scuba diving in the Leonida Keys, and you’ll probably find alligators in the rough-and-ready wetlands of the Grassrivers.

Then there’s Port Gellhorn: a shadier side of Leonida laced with motels, liquor, and strip clubs. Removed from the sanctuary of the Vice City, it’s here you’ll find some of GTA 6’s seedier individuals.

It’s a similar story at Ambrosia, where industry rules supreme. This is the blue-collar section of the game’s sandbox, with biker gangs and power plants. But how many of the seemingly legitimate factories in the area are just fronts for unscrupulous activities?

And finally, we have the Mount Kalaga, a literal breath of fresh air compared to the overpopulated downtown environments. It’s here you’ll find the local wildlife, fishing spots, and even rivers ripe for kayaking or other watersports. The game’s official website mentions you may also encounter some paranoid religious radicals, living far away from the “prying eyes of the government”.

So, there’s an absolutely insane amount of variety to this open world, from dense city backdrops to sprawling national parks. Already our mind is wandering to all the amazing things you may be able to do in this open world, from playing street hoops in the city to swimming with sea turtles, this sandbox seems ripe for unforgettable exploration.
