Having endured a rough fiscal year 2024, Bandai Namco is back on top thanks to an almost 1000% increase to profits.
There are two big factors to this growth, and both of them are video games.
Firstly, Elden Ring's all-conquering expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, was received extremely well. Not only did it rack up sales in its own right, it helped push the base game to new commercial heights, with Elden Ring hitting an enviable 30 million copies earlier this year.
On top of that, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero became an instant best-seller when it launched back in October. To date, it's shifted 5.4 million units worldwide, and was crowned the fastest-selling Dragon Ball game ever on consoles.
Again, while it's important to remember that the publisher had a rather dire fiscal year 2024 β due to a series of live service cancellations and the disastrous death of Blue Protocol β these hits still would have driven Bandai Namco's profits through the roof. It's just that year-on-year, the 995% (!) growth looks especially impressive.
