Sabotage Studio has just shared a release date and a few more details about Sea of Stars' upcoming DLC, Throes of the Watchmaker.
The add-on, which will be made available for free to all players, comes to PS5 and PS4 on 20th May, 2025.
As the DLC's title suggests, this post-story adventure revolves around the Watchmaker, the character who invented the in-game board game Wheels and constructed the Clockwork Castle.
Zale and Valere travel to a miniature clockwork world called Horloge, which is under threat from a mysterious, cursed carnival.
The two lead characters each receive a new class while in this world; Zale becomes a juggler, and Valere an acrobat. These new classes give each of them new attacks and combos, so veteran players can't rely on old tactics.
The pair is joined by a third, newly playable character, Artificer, who you may remember from the main campaign.
Throes of the Watchmaker is a quest that amounts to about eight hours of new stuff, including a fresh setting and characters, a standalone story with cinematic cutscenes, and new music from returning composer Eric W. Brown. Yasunori Mitsuda also comes back as a guest composer for the DLC.
If you're a fan of the original game, it looks like this is simply more of it, though the fresh gameplay will give this its own unique flavour. Again, it's free, so jumping back in is a no-brainer.
We're excited to revisit this neat fantasy world, but what do you think? Will you be returning to play Throes of the Watchmaker? Take your time in the comments section below.

I better play this before IGN spoils all of the unlocks, all of the secrets and even the ending. Again.
Very generous just giving it away for nothing. I would have happily paid for more content.
Free? Wow. I thought I had read previously it would be a paid DLC. Kudos to the devs, I enjoyed the game well enough and look forward to checking out the new content!
If this game was in my backlog longer, I'd be excited. I completed this game before the last DLC and don't plan on going back to this gem of a game. At least not anytime soon. Good to know it's there.
I would rather they focus on their next project then keep adding to this.
Can't wait π game was sick
@Quintumply Well done on the subheader and the other occasional, but not too many or obvious, puns.π
My earlier NL post:
My kid got the game as a Christmas gift but we were holding off on starting waiting for this. Will probably wait until fall now, summer is kinda booked, but it's nice to get a date so I can stop looking up when it's coming out. π
Looks real good!
Great game and a really fun platinum. Canβt wait to get stuck in. Would have gladly paid for this.
Looking forward to this. All aboard on team Sabotage.
One of my all time favs. I'd of gladly paid but free means the base game did really well for them. Hope a sequel to this or the messenger are in the works
Yes, let's spoil the experience of the content by writing exactly how long it is in the title of the article. Absolutely foolish. I don't want to block pushsquare from my news feed, but I will if I see this again. Use your head, Stephen. Jesus.
Loved this game.
Perfect example of a game that looked and felt exactly like I remembered the 16 era RPGs and not how they really were.
Not that they were bad, but they never looked that good.
Also, on normal difficulty, it was reasonably easy and somehow helped enjnoying this nice story and those wonderful characters.
really felt like Sabotage wanted you to enjoy the tour and the trip down everything they loved with them.
So, definitely on my to-do list!
Then, hopefully, I'll finish it right in time for Chained Echoes's DLC too.
Happy gaming everyone.
@GirlVersusGame
You'd think they'd show a bit more courtesy for their fellow gamers.
"yea, great movie, I totally didn't expect the main guy to get his head blown off by his buddy at the end though"
"uh, dude I haven't seen it yet"
"yeah man, you should totally see it. I was so shocked when the girl crashed Vic's car into the propane tanks too. I balled my eyes out."
"..."
@Buhjeezuz I reckon their Sea of Stars review was probably the worst I'd seen for spoilers. It was so bad that they removed the video then uploaded a new one. I haven't used the site since. They didn't even care that it was an Indie and that they could damage sales. They actually broke the embargo on the game, that's how publications get blacklisted. Nothing happened to them. I wouldn't even trust them with the time of day anymore, I'd rather spend the rest of my life trying to build Stonehenge than trust anything they had to say.
