Ubisoft seems determined to get its Far Cry franchise boosted on PS5, as it's just released yet another update for one of the older titles in the series.
Far Cry 4 is the latest game to receive an update; the PS4 version has today gotten a patch that upgrades the game to run at 60 frames-per-second when played on PS5.
The game update, version 1.08, is available to download and install now.
Again, Ubisoft is clearly on a mission to get all its big games running nicely on current-gen hardware. Before Far Cry 4, the publisher has released similar updates for Far Cry 5 and Far Cry: New Dawn, as well as The Crew 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Assassin's Creed Origins, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate.
You have to imagine that other games from the publisher will follow suit as it continues to build its reputation of great post-launch support.
Will you be upgrading Far Cry 4 to play nice and smooth on PS5? Tell us in the comments section below.

For all their many faults this is a great move. Maybe they will do the same for Far Cry 3, they locked classic edition to 30fps. It gets to 60fps on the Steamdeck, hopefully they push it to 60fps on PS5.
Amazing. Lack of 60fps patches are the only thing holding me back from most of their older library of games available on ps plus.
People think frame rate makes a game good. Ha. Just wait till next gen is 120fps and some titles remain now remain as 60fps . Everyone will sing the same song and suddenly 60fps is not good enough. Pretty sad really
@kailun Thanks for sharing.
The rest of us will just appreciate that, even with Ubisoft’s silly decisions, they actually made a good move here allowing this PS4 game to run at 60fps on a PS5.
@kailun Be sure to let us know when that happens.
@SteveJaye Have you played Far Cry 5 on PS5 Steve? It's one of the best in the series and runs great on console now.
@kailun 30 to 60fps is a big jump. I have a 144hz tv and 60 to 120 is noticeable but not nearly as big as 30 to 60. Not sure what your problem is. I don’t think I’m alone in saying playing a first person shooter in 30fps isn’t a good feeling…
@GirlVersusGame ya completed it. Great game! I hope they also add 60fps to their older assassins creed games. Would like to get into them as I never played any besides the open world ones. They did patch one of em already.
Awesome news! My favorite Far Cry, by far.
I really hope Wildlands will also receive a 60fps patch!
@SteveJaye I hope they get there with Primal too. I made the mistake of trying to 100% that a couple of months ago and almost every cut-scene caused the game to crash. Even when I skipped them the game would crash. Some boss fights had to be done three times over. It's the last open world platinum I have, just because the experience was so rough. I still think it's something to do with how Ubiconnect was running, when I took the console offline I didn't get as many crashes.
If they could fix the crashes, and make it so a wild animal doesn't Rick roll you every 2 meters, it would be a great game. There's a lot to see and do but you don't get a moment to yourself when every animal in a mile radius locks on like you have a 1.5K bounty in Oblivion. At a low level it was Conan Exiles all over again, being held hostage on a rock while animals try to murder you.
Not really bothered with 60 FPS 30 FPS is perfectly playable is only cry babies that complain it's like they've never played a PlayStation 3 game before
Time to switch back from Xbox!
Oooh yes! My personal favorite Far Cry! Might need to fire this up here soon if the release schedule slows down a bit. Love Far Cry 4!
AC: Unity is the one I'm waiting for. By far my favourite in the series and a super smooth PS5 version will finally complete the redemption arc.
As for Far Cry, I really liked 5 and hated 6. Haven't played the others. Based on this, would anyone recommend picking up 4?
Howabout a resolution boost as well
@kailun Awful take. It doesn't make a bad game good, but it makes a good game better, with better motion clarity and controller response.
Playing Sekiro on PS4 Pro was a dreadful experience as the inconsistent framerate meant parry timing was all over the place. On PS5 the game is locked to 60FPS, and so much better for it.
@Dampsponge Awful take. Why do you even have a modern console? Using that logic you'd be happy if 3D games stayed at the fidelity of Star Wing on the SNES.
@SteveJaye Nor a fighting game at 30FPS! Both genres are a bad time at that refresh.
@kailun @Dampsponge
To some your comments are completely disrespectful.
I nearly gave up console gaming as a hobby towards the end of PS4 era, as I cannot play anything much less than locked 60fps anymore - and I have been playing console games since the 8bit days. Within 10 minutes I feel ill and/or get headaches.
This is not uncommon. New TV display tech, age, and gaming experience, amongst other things, all seem to play an important part, but it is something that got much worse (and pretty quickly).
I will also note that the problems started before I knew that much about framerates and certainly before I started watching things like DF.
These days, near locked 60fps is literally my 1st concern when buying a game - it doesn't matter how 'good" that game is, it is unplayable if it isn't.
I also have firsthand experience of others in the same situation.
@Starkei Do it
@SteveJaye
Anything less than near locked 60fps is a no go for me, but even with my tolerance levels what you say holds fairly true.
@Rich33 I can play perfectly fine at 40fps. Really good in god of war and last of us part 1 and 2. Huge jump from 30 to 40 surprisingly. I believe despite how it seems it’s almost 50% faster I believe. I wish more games had a 40fps option. It’s the best of both worlds.
And I agree with the rest 100%. I only meant the biggest jump is 30 to 60. For me after 60 it feels even more responsive. It’s hard for me to visibly see(I can though) the difference but you can certainly feel it.
@MrPeanutbutterz for sure. I don’t play fighting games but I can imagine the feeling of input lag on 30fps would suck.
60 frames was such a leap that I feel ok with it for the foreseeable future, until the difference is pointed out to me. For now my focus is the Portal and in particular the traces or motion blur now that can be nasty…
@Rich33 I don’t know what some peoples problems are with people complaining about 30fps. So strange so always see people say “30fps isn’t perfectly fine” and 30fps is the same as 60 I don’t see a difference!”. Well good for them. I wish I couldn’t tell the difference but their certainly is.

Some people don't notice the difference with playing 30-60fps. This is wild to me. I can't go back to playing 30fps games now, it feels awful to me. I've been waiting for this and unity, so pretty happy.
@MrPeanutbutterz Thanks I didn't even know Sekiro had 60 Fps on PS5, for a game so reliable on timing I can only imagine how well it will play now.
So random and weird, but I ain't mad about it. I just wish Far Cry 4 were a better game
That's great, but what about resolution? Is it only 1080p or upped to 4k?
@GirlVersusGame Yep, from my 120 hours with Sekiro, I think it's pretty much welded to the 60FPS refresh (and I'm very sensitive to framerate hiccups).
Same set up with Dark Souls 3 - 30FPS but a bit wobbly on PS4, 30 to 60FPS mess on PS4 Pro, locked 60FPS on PS5.
@SteveJaye Yep, but not just input lag, but the very nature of the game. Pro players (and even a lot of casual enthusiasts like myself) can will know the frame data of moves - start up, recovery, active frames, etc.
Not having a 60FPS lock throws that knowledge into the bin.
@MrPeanutbutterz I'm going to try it again. I had to unlearn years of Dark Souls habits to stop myself from being kicked around the place. It was a smoother experience when I learned to play more with my ears and not rely as much on visual queues, they never felt like they arrived on time. Now it sounds like we'll have both.
@GirlVersusGame Ooooh yeah I know that feeling of trying to unlearn Dark Souls habits. I've been doing katana builds in Souls since DS1 (and did one in Elden Ring too), so it was an extra hump to get over.
This might sound a bit daft, but what really helped me with Sekiro (which I went on to Platinum - something I rarely bother with) was when I treated it as a rhythm-action game. I play drums, and once the parrying clicked, I spent the rest of the game tapping my foot along to it.
Still waiting for The Ezio trilogy too get a 60 fps update hopefully soon.
@SteveJaye
Im pretty sure some people genuinely don't see a difference much above 30fps - its rare I believe, but not impossible.
What irritates me is those self-centred people that think (and worse, comment) that just because they can tolerate / enjoy 30fps modes, that everyone else can and should. Really, the same is equally true for those who think its acceptable for 60fps modes to drop / stutter all the time.
I don't like this 'CPU limited' argument most of the time either - plenty of devs have the ability to do far more with the CPUs available in consoles.
RE 40fps - I can't personally play at 40fps, but some people do really like it. As you point out, 40 does not sound close to 60, but the key thing here is Frame times (the time between frames). 40fps is I believe, exactly half way between 30fps and 60fps when considering the Frame time only - hence what you are experiencing in thinking it's half way between 30 and 60fps is correct.
My 1st reply to you was meant as a friendly bit of info - if it didn't come out that way, apologies, I had just written a less friendly reply to others.
@MrPeanutbutterz That's not daft, that's how I managed to finish the game. For some bosses I muted the music and just listened to each attack, then I made a mini rhythm game of it. I did it with something else not too long ago, maybe Bannerlord. It helped me get through a lot of area battles where your AI teammates get destroyed and it's just you left to fight 2 guys on horseback, 2 archers and possibly a guy with an axe. The actual large scale battles are brilliant, but rely more on commanding your troops. learning RL attack formations and then riding in and slashing away if you like.
But the AI goes into murder mode after you take a certain amount of castles/land. It's a constant back and forth of, war, peace, war, peace, you eventually lose it all because the game doesn't want you to win. They cut your passive income and supply lines down to nothing, if you can't feed your troops they desert you. Such a good game, I never expected to see it on console. Or for the battles to run as well as they do.
Green are my troops. You can lay sieges to other kingdoms and when you do there's the option to let it just play out from the maps perspective or get in there yourself and manually command/fight your way to victory. It's got a steep learning curve.
@Rich33 no worries I never took it as a rude comment. I agree with you 100%. The worst part is for some reason it’s a problem for them that we can see a massive difference in 30-60-120fps. I wish I couldn’t see a difference to be honest lol.
@Dampsponge You aren’t bothered by 30fps, so no one else should be happy that a 60fps patch came out. Got it.
Watch Dogs 1 & 2 pls
@MrPeanutbutterz Frame rate doesn't matter a whole lot to me, as long as it's a playable 30fp it's fine by me. Although I have a hard time believing anyone saying that they don't see a difference between 30 and 60.
@Dampsponge do you use the term "cry babies" irl? Are you an 80s middle school football coach?
Ezio Trilogy would be nice.
@kailun this is comical to me.
@GirlVersusGame Uplay Connect is a cancer even on the PC it's been in beta for years and they recently changed it. Any game they move under the legacy banner now requires you to enter your password every time you hit play and I mean every time. So it calls home to prove it's you even though your signed in should Uplay not be working it work let you play because it can't dial home even if you bought it
@kailun
True to some degree I suppose but for some including myself 60 feels a lot smoother than 30, the truth of the matter is the PS 5 console struggles with some modern game engines with high end graphics tech, that's why there's a crap 30 fps mode 🤣
Great news. I only played 1 and 3 when I had a PC years ago, this is now good reason for me to play FC4. Btw, it's on sale right now on ps store
