Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo has just been announced for PS5, a cute action platformer with presentation clearly inspired by Game Boy Advance.
Published by PM Studios and developed by Pocket Trap, this charming 2D adventure casts you as Pippit, a bat on a quest to restore his family's honour after his aunt is kidnapped. "Using Pippit’s trusty yoyo as a weapon, you will explore a sprawling urban landscape, learning new tricks and fighting rival crime bosses to restore your family’s once powerful legacy," reads the press release.
It seems the yoyo is the real core of the game; by discovering new tricks, you will be able to explore more and more of the city and utilise those moves in combat.
You'll be able to unlock and equip a wide range of upgrades and abilities that alter the gameplay as you fight and platform through the game. The above trailer provides a taster of the action and the crime bosses you'll come up against.
If you're interested, a free playable demo is now available on PS Store. The full game is scheduled for release on PS5 come 28th May 2025, so it's not too far away.
A physical retail edition is also planned for release later, though there's no date for that yet. It'll be a special collector's edition featuring a Pippit plushie, and pre-orders are live now for North America.

@UltimateOtaku91 you are in the wrong news
I have it on my Steam wishlist, can't wait for the full release
@UltimateOtaku91 "Popular" 🤣 most of them shut down after a fortnight (no pun intended)
I'd rather play it on handheld / Steam Deck. Pixel art like this looks much better on a 8ish inch screen than a 55 inch 4K one. Even on YouTube it looks better small, embedded in the page than full-screen.
Looks great though.
@yazzika OMG 😂 I posted it on the article
Sort of looks like that game Reverie that came out a few years back, wonder if its the same devs.
We definitely don't have the same definition of a platformer. This seems to be an action adventure, like the old Zelda
